What this study describes reeks of survivorship bias, and doesn't really support the title IMO. People who think its easy (and worthwhile) become vegan/vegetarian, those who think its hard won't - duh. How hard it is depends considerably on how much someone likes plant-based food (especially the food they cook themselves) and how easy their access is (e.g. some people don't even have a kitchen, live with nazis, or don't have any restaurants selling proper vegan meals in their area).
About 69% of plant-based students identified as far left, left or centre left, compared with about 48% of omnivores. Around 11.5% of plant-based students identified as centre right, right or far right, compared with about 23% of omnivores.
TBH that's a lot more "balanced" than I thought. I bet those numbers would look much more biased to the left if it was only looking at vegans.
You have to remember that students are still kids. If they're not studying politics, and weren't raised in an overly political home, they may not know much what it means to be a Republican outside the context of their small community.
I just have a hard time imagining a basically unpolitical person embracing a plant-based diet. IDK how this works in Brazil, but generally rightwingers don't tend to be subtle about embracing meat-eating and rejecting veganism. How do you even get the idea that meat-eating is bad without coming into contact with any political discourse? Obviously some people are going to arrive at that idea on their own, I just assumed that it would be a lot fewer than this study indicates.

For me it was probably the hundredth time eating meat (specifically a frozen meat lasagna) and thinking about how the ground beef was probably hundreds of abused, miserable cows with very little joy in life. Finally something clicked and with hardly any effort at all, I became vegetarian for week and after that full-on vegan.
Before that moment I’d worked in fast food and generally didn’t think much about what I ate. There wasn’t some vegan person in my life introducing me to the concept nor did any political figure tell me about it. I literally just thought about it for a few moments and arrived to the conclusion “that’s fucked up.”
Frankly it’s really difficult to listen to people complain how it’s all so difficult and it requires some level of instruction — if you just stop eating animal products you’ll easily adapt — it just sounds like excuses to me.

Hopefully you probably know You can find "vegan restaurants" easily online : happycow..
Imo Being Vegan is ok nowadays because we have international food and especially Supplements.. If not or if you want to grow your whole-year diet in your garden, you will get malnutrition (like the MacDonal's eaters lol..) The best example is Africa.. Regards.
Through a tiktok influencer telling you, for instance. That is how I first learned about veganism at 18, Freelee the Banana Girl telling me I can be thin, fit, and healthy like her if I just ate a case of bananas a day.
vegan is vegan
plant based is bs
