China's bike lanes are mind-blowing. But there's a problem.

I had some preconceptions about what it might be like to ride a bike in Chinese cities, but I wasn't prepared for what I saw. Bike thanks to David Wang of Brook & Breeze: https://brookandbreeze...

From the Shifter channel on peertube / YT

Quite surprised to hear cycling was as high as 64% of trips in Beijing until the 1990s, but then everything changed after The Automotive Industry Policy from 1995 to 2005, which basically made it into your average western car centric hell hole.

Luckily, it seems to be changing for the better after Covid as the video explores it in more depth

Those wide, protected bike lanes 😍

Filled with mopeds 😔

I was lucky enough to visit in the 90s, I really enjoyed all the biking. People looked happier than they do now.
