Canadian Carrier locked S20 unlock?

6 days ago by DeadEndLink to c/linuxphones

Anyone have a tutorial on how to unlock a carrier locked s20? I read you can make it happen with some kind of modified usb-c and some sort of special program.

It shouldn't be carrier locked. Unlocked phones have been the law in Canada since 2017.

I know some carriers lock them for 60 days after purchase but the CRTC is in court with them now. If you take it to a store and ask, they will unlock.

Unless they're referring to the boatloader which I assume is not regulated the same way it isn't in the U.S. Any phone bought through Verizon cannot have its bootloader unlocked.

AFAIK S20 is not supported by any Linux at the moment
