Bulgaria Seeks Black Sea Moratorium

4 days ago by mapto to c/blacksea

President Iliana Yotova said Bulgaria will propose a moratorium on hostilities in the Black Sea, seek stronger allied surveillance and anti-drone capabilities, and pursue diplomatic efforts with all Black Sea littoral states following a meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS) on the drone attacks against two commercial vessels in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone. The CCNS meeting, convened by Yotova, focused on current risks and threats to Bulgaria's maritime security and critical infrastructure in the context of the war in Ukraine.

This could be a first step towards a demilitarized Black Sea. Post-Putin Russia could be forced into it, bit Turkey would be difficult to persuade for the idea.
