Amazon has an uncomfortably personal profile on you

Amazon thinks it knows your body, your family, and your life. You didn't sign up for it, and we couldn't find a way to opt-out.

I'm convinced this whole thing is just a marketing push. Everybody's sharing their zany little Amazon profiles on social media, tacitly encouraging their friends to go on Amazon to find out about their profile. And if they happen to see some GREAT DEALS on the homepage while they're there, so much the better!

LOL... mine wasn't that uncomfortable; likes craft beer, crafts, spoiling my cats, etc.

The only thing that they got wrong was the brand of watch I wear.

Is it really a shock that they say you probably have a flat ass if you're searching for pants that look good on someone with a flat ass?

There should be an easy toggle to turn it all off, but yeah, like what do people expect? These stores know what you have bought, so they use it to recommend other stuff, that's their entire business.

A few thoughts, in no particular order:

Frankly I would not really trust them to honor an off switch, would you? After all, they nessacarally collect all the purchases history in order to serve you.

It's likely that if they chose to do so they could generate that page dynamically as you were shopping and do the same with the recommendations derived from it. Though I would imagine a speed penalty would be involved, which would be annoying.

I've definitely enjoyed some of those lists of recommendations. For instance, just a few days ago I kind of stumbled into what was clearly a list of recommendations for people into peptides and brain "hacking." I bought a fancy label maker (NIIMBOT B2), and all of the suggestions were fancy containers to store your peptide vials... I'm diabetic, so I picked up some cool silicone vial caps and a few other things I probably wouldn't have been aware of.

I imagine, with a fair amount of effort one could create new accounts every few weeks, the way some people here seem to. Get PO Boxes in different places, use several different payment options, maybe privacy.com, gift cards, etc. Kind of compartment your interests. I certainly don't have the time... but it seems possible.

I checked mine and it literally said, "Has love handles." Lol.

I came here to post but went back to get a screenshot and it was gone.

Creepy x2.

Edit: And now it's back.

Good article. I had about 17 different things used to track me on there that I now deleted.
