[Help Request] Duplicate/conflicting audio controller

10 days ago by qyron to c/linux

As per the title, I am having a conflict on my computer, running Debian, with two sound controllers being found.

One is a Raven/Raven2/FengHuang controller and the other is the Ryzen sound controller.

The Raven is not even returning any sound, I've tested it, but it is to this controller the system defaults to. I've even manually selected the sound controller I want to use and the moment I close the GUI it defaults to the Raven and loses sound output.

I have managed to find a few posts on the internet from 2020 reporting it was a known issue and it was due to be solved but I wasn't able to find any solution to address the problem.

As anyone had this problem and found a solution for it?

Edit

I feel the need to add this here, as it makes no sense whatsoever to me.

I have a cheap, basic, USB camera connected to the pc. The moment I added the PulseAudio soubd control, it immediatly showed the camera as being a sound input hardware. It does not have a built in microphone, to my knowledge.

Also connected to the computer, on the front port, is a combined head/microphone single jack headset, of the kind where the microphone is built into the wire. It is not recognized as a sound input device if the camera is disconnected, although it still allows output.

Added to this, under Audacity, unless I set Pulse aa the default input and output device, no sound is played or recorded.

step 1, figure out which sound system you're using:

  • oss
  • alsa
  • esd
  • pulseaudio
  • pipewire

I'm probably forgetting a couple.
... joking. Have you tried poking in the settings of pavuctrl already? There's a button to set the default.

I sincerely don't know what is going on but after installing that package I was made aware that apparently the camera I have connected to my computer has a built in microphone. But which is apparently not useable as a recording device. So I have to wonder to where is that sound going.

Edit: something is seriously wrong. The microphone I have built-in to my headphones started working when I first added the package. After I disconnected the USB camera, it stopped registering on the system. And now it does not pick uo sound to record on Audacity.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
