I hired an illustrator to draw my house. Now it's my Home Assistant dashboard.

A flickering fireplace, a softly lit garden, and a smart home the whole family finally enjoys.

Holy shit, it's 21 degrees out and this dude is rocking the wood burning stove till it's hot as balls inside the home. No worries tho, the aircon is on in the bedroom. Holy shit it's set to heat at 26 degrees. Dude must be a lizard or something.

26°C is comfy for most people(that live in tropic area), though i haven't acclimated to that, 28-29°C is my comfort zone.

I'm fine with anything between 14 and 28 depending on wind, but 21 is bliss

I think the images are from the LLM that wrote the article; the second image states “images generated for this article”.

Thorry 8 points 6 days ago

No I don't think so. It think that specifically points to that specific image. The other images are from the final result, which was done by an artist as the author states.

I think they are just from testing tho, not a real situation, to show the different configurations.

I also don't think the article was LLM written. It might be assisted by LLM, but I see some human patterns in there.

I see some human patterns in there.

I took your post and gave it along with the prompt "you're a Lemmy user, reply to this post saying the goal of LLM is to mimic human speech"

Guess which two were written by Gemini and which was written by my brain:

A) That’s the thing, though—LLMs are literally trained to mimic human writing patterns and quirks. Seeing "human patterns" in text doesn't really rule out LLM generation anymore; it just means the model (or the prompting) was good at recreating how people actually talk and write.

B) The core purpose of an LLM is literally to mimic human text patterns, so seeing "human patterns" in a piece doesn't mean it wasn't generated or heavily written by AI. That's just the tool doing its job.

C) Considering LLM are literally made to model human language; you're going to see plenty of human patterns in LLM output. Hell that's their selling point - you can't tell it wasn't made by a person!

33% chance you'll guess right and maybe you still do know for real, and that's great! You're right that there is some "Je ne sai quoi" in the way humans speak but these LLM have gotten scary good at sounding like people. Especially if you don't already know the "voice" of whoever wrote what you're reading. Like certain grammatical tells of sorts.

Edit: I just realized this is even harder because my Gemini has a bunch of my writing to use for training data and defaults to trying to mimic my tone and style.

I came here to comment that this guy could be SE Asian or Spanish based on the illustration.

I also keep the house at 25° 😎 - I’m definitely cold all the time, and if room temp dips below 24°, I’ll fall asleep without wanting to.

I've always liked looking at these, but I know I'd quickly replace them with something more information-dense

Same. I love graphs and numbers, and I don't understand why everyone else seems to prefer cartoons.

Still, if your goal is to get other people to like ha as much as you do, then catering to their aesthetic is key.

I Guess it makes more sense for a dashboard that is used by a mounted screen, especially if you want to impress guests (or just like pretty screens)

I have something similar as the main screen for my dashboard solution.

The 3d floorplan gives you quick acres to most things that can be toggled but olif you tap and hold you get a level deeper and see all the graphs and figures.

Like ogres and onions it's all about the layers.

I do this for our access control and security software at work. Our SOC gets high level overviews and can drill down to individual sensors whenever they need to. Theres an art to keeping things clean and simple.

That's fucking amazing. I'm so happy to see people not selling stuff like this out to ai.

That's a really nice (and expensive) interface, not gonna lie. Though I would hate it to repay the designer everytime I change a device or a room layout.

I started doing something similar using SweetHome3D, which is free on Linux iirc.

I don't even use anything home assistant related, but now I want an animated pixel art display of my home done by an illustrator.

The illustrator seems to be referenced at the bottom of the blog post Owen Yeconiel, but I don't know how much it would cost. An artist friend suggested it might be in the few thousands when considering layering and various illustrations.

Now I can just go to Chad Geepitee and ask him... Hey I want to draw my house like this, here are some photos of my house.

I'll probably get some random shit and it'll look great! In turn Amazon learns what stuff I don't have so they can sell it to me.

I'd do that if all my illustrator money wasn't going on rent and if I wasn't renting.

Pretty cool, and making the rest of us look bad. I presume us poors could figure out how to use an image generator to pull something like this off, no?

Also.. how much ram would you say it uses?

I did this in my last place, but made the floorplan in Krita. It was pretty cool, but too much work to do again.
