[article] The government seems to finally have acknowledged that headlights are too bright

This can only be good news in my expectation, even if it is the Trump administration in charge.

Cruelty is the point. Watch as Sean Duffy increases the limits so more Americans die on the roads.

That’s what this administration is: nihil, suffering, cruelty, and death. It’s what the billionaires want.

“Today’s standards do not allow automakers to deploy the latest safety-improving lighting technologies, so we are bringing key experts and stakeholders together to modernize our standards and address potential causes of glare,” said NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison.

In before industry reps convince the government to mandate some new high-intensity headlights that are three times as bright while also being ten times more expensive.

Yes. I’m firmly convinced people are idiots and will always be a problem. The answer is adaptive headlights. They may seem expensive but glare is enough of a problem that it’s worth it

Are there adaptive lowbeams? All the problems with too bright headlights I encounter are with too bright lowbeams, not with people accidentally leaving their highbeams on in the middle of the city.

Yea I have been flashing people thinking they have there high beams on only to see them actually put there high beams on. Then I see nothing else.

I do assume that as well. Technically no, but I believe they are typically self leveling, plus are tighter beams

Some of the reasons for excessive glare include

  • incorrectly aimed headlights
  • older style reflectors that let a lot of light spread
  • leaving high beams on
  • using LED replacement bulbs that aren’t legally replacements

Adaptive high beams fix 3.5/4 of these. I do not think it helps with incorrectly aimed headlights from lifted trucks though

I have definitely noticed cars with extremely bright headlights that are also more tightly focussed. No glare

If the cars where lower to the road and all spotlights where turned off after a certain speed it would solve a few issues. Some people need the hight or the lights but not everyone and not all the time.
