Gaza ceasefire ‘exists in name only’, more than 100 NGOs say

Given their history of violence across the region, Israel’s actions in Gaza — particularly after blockading the Strip in 2007 —were merely the continuation of an established practice.
Between 2008 and 2023, Israel launched four successive wars on Gaza, on top of several smaller military operations. While each would be temporarily halted via a ceasefire, humanitarian pause or a hudna — an Arabic term for low-intensity truce — such agreements meant little to the occupying force, which would often carry on striking with impunity.
During this period, 5,278 Gazans were killed, and more than 140,000 were injured. Over 1,000 of those deaths came outside the four major military operations. Furthermore, weekly UN reports showed that Israel routinely struck Palestinian militants during periods in which a ceasefire had taken effect, often harming civilians in the process.
More on disinformation surrounding this mass crime against humanity and the complitity of establishment media.
The New York Times ran an opinion piece (10/4/26) by Israeli foreign policy analyst Yonatan Touval three days prior to the anniversary, headlined “Israelis Are Exhausted. There Is a Way Out.” Though Touval devotes one paragraph in the middle of the article to recognizing Israel’s killing and harassment of Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank, Israelis are still the primary victims of the “catastrophe of October 7, 2023”—the term “catastrophe” coincidentally being the English translation of the Arabic word “nakba,” which when capitalized denotes the human disaster brought on by Israel’s violent founding in 1948.

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.
Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.
What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.
By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.
