Family turns bare island into reef oasis after guano mining destroys it

2 days ago by arbilp3 to c/brisbane

Lady Elliot Island sat bare, bleak and silent for 100 years after guano miners ravaged it, leaving a moonscape devoid of life. Then in the 1960s, one family started planting trees.

For all of us Queenslanders who are fed up with awful stories about destruction of Qld ecosystems, have a look at this article and feel proud and happy - Lady Elliot Island

Some great photos of the island, the birds that have returned and the people who love living and working there.
