Hah, the bit about "plug it in and save the connection fee" - because it wasn't long before this that you didn't have phone plugs on the wall. You'd have to call a service technician out to install a wire - that would be permanently installed into the wall. And you rented the phone - that ubiquitous single design.
It's wild to think how the tech has changed. And now we only care about data. Voice is a secondary thought. And rightfully so. lol.
