Linus Torvalds Working On A Hefty Linux Kernel Improvement

The code is working on addressing a Linux issue of small reads of one file from many threads contend on the folio reference counting. So the goal of the branch / patch series is to read from the page cache without folio references.

Improvements seem to be 2x - 2.5x in benchmarks

has the title changed?

Trying to avoid trolls honestly (as there seem to be a few who are literally just going community post, to community post looking at keywords). And a lot of them don't even read the articles at this point.

But also, I do change a lot of titles. Because the interesting thing is the 2x - 2.5x performance boost in reading, not on how it happened imho.

Then your title is weirdly mixed between singular and plural, you should remove the spurious trailing s.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of people on the Fediverse who are on a crusade against any and all AI use and support. I don't disagree that there's a bunch of slop and unethical backgrounds of LLMs, but throwing the entire tool under the bus just because slop exists is not helpful.

And besides, if one's not just a sheep and actually reads the article, one's opinion is much more valid, so I for one appreciate what you did :-)

Every developer and professional system administrator out there are probably fatigued about those constant discussions too at work, and come here for a break.

Its actually one reason I started this community specifically despite there being similar communities. Also why I set a policy to be neutral and non political here.. i want to encourage people to to feel safe contributing any linux project, without having to worry about the politics of how it was developed, or worrying about getting downvoted for political reasons

I'm completely onboard with that. I, too, am fatigued by it all, honestly. Of course we can't be completely free of it, because everything has implications, but I appreciate your efforts of keeping the focus on what we as a community are passionate about and interested in. The passion is also that which can provoke some rather emotional responses sometimes.
