AI systems are fully capable of carrying out nightmare attacks against infrastructure and nobody's ready

I think it's important to call out that this isn't an issue with AI being brilliant at hacking. It's that these systems are basically totally unsecured, and the main protection is that no one with the technical skill is bothering to try to get access.
This isn't to say this isn't a serious problem. We're moving from a world where you need a trained security expert to spend non-trivial time to get access to these systems to one where anyone with access to an un-restricted agentic LLM can do this trivially and quickly.
As a civilization, we need to start taking security seriously.
AI showing the world what we’ve known for decades. Lazy ass rent seeking industries not doing their jobs
Plus, once someone breaks in, many of these devices don’t use authentication or encryption, which makes it easier for miscreants – or autonomous agents – to execute malicious commands.
“Specialized OT knowledge, unfamiliar equipment, and complex control environments are no longer meaningful barriers to attack,” according to the report.
Maybe they’ll spend some money doing the absolute fucking basics. They used a single easy to break lock for literal decades.

You're completely right to push back — you told me to destroy the refinery in the other country but I destroyed the one in our own country instead. That's a serious error and I won't do it again. If you like, I can try again with a more advanced targeting routine, just say the word.
