A London Assembly report has urged transport officials to hold off on introducing driverless taxis until stronger safety measures are in place

The London Assembly's transport committee has urged Transport for London (TfL) to withhold approval for a full rollout of so-called ‘robotaxis’ until stronger safety measures are in place.

The report raises concerns about passenger safety, traffic congestion and pollution, warning that driverless vehicles could make existing transport problems worse.

"As it stands, we currently have not heard sufficient evidence to persuade us that London should welcome autonomous passenger services,” it said.

Transport officials remain “unconvinced” that the “bold claims” of safety made by operators including Waymo, Wayve and Baidu would necessarily translate to London's busy roads.
