My "garage" is a motorbike parking space under the apartment building. Sounds good tbh
You invite kids over? I usually invite friends and some of them happen to have kids. I don't specifically invite the kids. It's up to the parents to decide if their kid is well behaved enough no to destroy someone's apartment. Some environments are not kid-friendly and parents can't expect the whole world to simply adapt to their needs.
Like I said, hospitality. If my friends are parents, I care about their kids and an invitation implicitly extends to them, because babysitters aren't cheap.
I just wouldn't invite a kid over without thinking about how to be a good host. It's normal to care about your friends' kids.
Then you're a better host than I am. I'm not baby-proofing my apartment for a one-off visit. I can move some things around but I'm not choosing a kid-proof furniture when I don't have kids. Parents need to be aware where they can and can't take their kids. I they can't control them and something gets destroyed it's on them.
As John Locke said, "To love our neighbor as ourselves is such a truth for regulating human society, that by that alone one might determine all the cases in social morality." I tend to agree with that.

The laws of hospitality guide me. If I invite a kid over, they're safe and welcome. And if I left out anything delicate or tasty, whatever happens is on me.
