What is the purpose of EU wide legislation if the states get to cherry pick every law individually. That's absurd.

They got quite far supplanting states' sovereignty. The point wasn't to become a super state. It was merely to facilitate trade and commerce. So they said.

It was decided to have a EU parliament and to give that parliament a certain power over its member states. If you can choose to veto the laws individually I see no point in having such legislative organs and processes. Negotiating and formalizing such laws is very expensive. Spending that money if the outcome is just a non-binding idea or recommendation isn't justified IMO.

It was merely to facilitate trade and commerce.

I think we are far behind that point that the EU was only about trade. But even if this was true, having common rules is important in a joint market to avoid unfair differences.

What is global news?

Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.

Post guidelines

Title format

Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.

URL format

Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.

[Opinion] prefix

Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.

Country prefix

Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.
