David Miller: Brad Bradford’s ‘solution’ to a problem that doesn’t exist is bad news for all Torontonians

4 days ago by Avid Amoeba to c/toronto

Yet one conservative mayoral candidate, Brad Bradford — and the conservative think tank backing him — want to turn Toronto Water into a separate corporation.

Of course, the proponents insist their proposal isn’t privatization. They say a separate corporation would let Toronto borrow more by securing new debt against our water infrastructure. But we all know that if you default on the debt, the lender can force its sale. Do we want to put our water infrastructure in that position? Never.

Vote like your water depends on it and tell your friends.

These people have an illness. An ideology that is hell bent on destroying livelihoods so rich people can get richer. Ayn Rand is an example of insight into the actual madness of these people. They believe in their cause. Its not normal corruption. Its worse.

Their material interests underpin the ideology though. I believe that's why it's so strong and resilient. Every time a public good or service goes private, someone can collect profit that wasn't possible before. Often donors or sometimes the people doing the privatization themselves (or their relatives).

The province already imposed a similar scheme to Peel Region.
