[Done] Restarting Lemmy.world at 17:00 CET for server upgrade

Apparently in some parts of the world it's already Monday June 12th. I see registrations going up.

This results in the server CPU staying around 70% even spiking over 90%. So I will upgrade the VPS from 4cpu/16GB to 8cpu/32GB.

Expect a few minutes downtime at 17:00 CET

What is the plan when the new VPS gets overloaded in a few hours? What happens if this instance becomes popular and has 50k users a day?

Then I move it to a dedicated server, like I did with mastodon.world which has 164k users and had over 100k active users at it's peak.

It's still slow af. takes me 45 seconds to save edit to this post What's the plan to fund scaling? You should probably have some burstable resources set up with a hyperscaler cloud.

Some world event will happen and this site will break down faster than toilet paper in the rain
