Testing a new encrypted messaging app's extraordinary claims

3 years ago by z2k_ to c/cybersecurity

How I accidentally breached a nonexistent database and found every private key in a 'state-of-the-art' encrypted messenger called Converso.

That was a terrifyingly entertaining read. Now I'm even more paranoid.

Yeah, definitely makes me think twice before trying out new apps.

I guess its good advice is to stick wirh well established ones. Makes it hard for newcomers, though.

Saw this one over on /r/cybersecurity and just goes to show why you should always have healthy skepticism for new closed source applications with wild claims.

That's infuriating to read, considering how much we are expected to trust the tech we bring home.

It was also fascinating from the deep dive into the app, to the company going through the stages of stupidity when caught out.

This was such a good read. Makes me want to get into application security auditing.

If only it was easier to find things like this, but sadly most companies aren't this scummy/incompetent xD
