I vaguely remember that, could have done better in the indie dev era I bet
The Nomad Soul https://youtu.be/AlHrvQJqDMg was way ahead of its time. it was very well received at the time and I had a blast playing it.
But in 1997 it had limitations that today would make it incredible
Cyberpunk meets Watchdogs 3 in an alien world.
You, the gamer, astrotravel into the game and possess the soul of a character, taking their life, living in their apartment and saving the world (I can't quite remember the details of the story, there may have been a murder rampage). You could find other playable NPCs wondering around and you could transfer your soul to them, losing access to the previous ones life and taking on a new persona entirely while continuing on your quest. I think it was a one way transfer and if you character died you would have to find a new soul to possess.
Open world in a cyberpunk city. you played third person however combat was on 1st person.
David Bowie was a character.
Great soundtrack, huge scope before GTA 3D, lots to explore.
the more I think about it this is one game fully deserving of a remake and not get lost to time.
thanks for using Leebra!

Not sure if it would've sold more if released later, but Another World felt pretty ahead of its time when it was released in 1991
