What are those views, just curious...
someone else posted a comment link a day after you posted yours, its explains about some very much fascist views the dev openly has. I think that's why they tried to get kbin to work at first, but mentioned they had issues setting it up, so lemmy it is I guess
I have to say that one of the strangest things 2022 gave us was the word "Tankie" going back to its roots. Leftists that support Russian tanks rolling into Ukraine are Tankies. Plain and simple.
What, I'm an Anarchist. I might dislike the current capitalist dystopia we live in, but getting a bunch of shitty corporate-states to finance a bunch of people fighting against fascists is incredibly punk.
I'm really glad I saw this instance. I've been looking for a "home" on Lemmy these past few days, after the Reddit blackout started being announced, but couldn't find any instance I felt like I'd really be comfortable in — until this one!
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt sentiments, fellow seeker of cybernetic havens!
Maybe someone should add a short tutorial :D
maybe :D
it should probably include a link to https://browse.feddit.de/ and a quick note about the syntax for communities - eg. !cyberpunk2077@dataterm.digital
Yay! Was looking for a “home” for this and figured it’d be just a matter of time until we had our own 😉
We didn't want to disappoint you! So we delivered! ^^
I'm curious why the lemmy developers icky-ness isn't being so widely broadcasted? Only seeing this post here is what led me to know there was any drama.
Just searching the lemmy tag on mastodon for instance, no one talks about it.
However when I brought up creating a community for a special interest, someone linked this for the context of why they'd rather not https://raddle.me/f/lobby/155371/-/comment/276944
yeah, and everytime I've seen lemmy mentioned on a place like youtube or anywhere else people make sure to mention the problems with its devs behaviour and/or some communities that are very hostile. Which is why I wasn't sure if I should use it or not. apparently the instance I signed up at has been brigaded before, I'd imagine by hostile subs like that, but I'm new so I havent seen it happen myself.
I was asking my close friend who uses reddit about the protests. She was like yeah I took a 2 day break and then I went back to reddit and saw they were still talking about protesting. I said "did you try out any alternative platforms" she said she didnt and then I explained to her lemmy since she was aware of Mastodon. She basically complained about how she hates twitter there fore she didnt try mastodon. I said mastodon is not profit driven like twitter and its a much better experience same with Lemmy. But she said nah I just done use it anymore. Its sad because I know that will fade and she will go back to using twitter/reddit even though she doesnt like the platforms.
man... mastodon is so much better than twitter, it has a timeline thats actually sorted chronologically, no algorithm based bs, no ads, no crappy "recommended" tweets polluting the timeline. I never really liked twitter because it has always felt too... frantic? frenetic? I don't know, it was like the tiktok of microblogs, where things got promoted based on how much of an instant reaction they get out of you, I feel like this promoted short, clever posts which, both combined, drags any opposite sides into pointless slapfights, in comparison mastodon has felt so much more chill, and don't find myself opening it by muscle memory like I do reddit or youtube.
I hope to quit reddit soon, a year or so ago I noticed I was in a lot of subs just for the entertainment, no community or anything (subreddits like wcgw, idiotsincars, instantkarma, etc.) stupid point and laugh subs, I left those and am only in hobby subs now, now I just need to find a few replacements on lemmy to join.
We tried to install kbin, but failed at several points, so we had to switch to Lemmy.
Can you clarify if that means you might make a kbin instance in the event that the installation doesn't fail anymore or is the idea of making a kbin instance gone?
At the moment lemmy and kbin are both pretty early in their develoment cycles - kbin had so many issues that we couldn't get it to run at all, lemmy runs, but it's far from being smooth.
We'll keep an eye on both and see how the development goes, and we might consider a kbin instance once it's reached a certain maturity. But, and that's a big but, we've got a community that's attracted over 200 people in a matter of days, and unless there's a process to migrate all those users smoothly from one instance to another, it's pretty unlikely that we're gonna replace this lemmy instance with a kbin based platform entirely.
Is there a reason why I try to follow !@random@kbin.social but I don't seem to be able to search and find it.
@tmv @revengeday I think kbin has that disabled because of the developer's current attempt to upscale for the surge in new users due to the migration. Read it somewhere but I'm not quite sure if I could find it again.
@tmv @revengeday It might not even be possible. I'm still getting used to the rules of kbin myself
Hell yeah glad to see this set up. Now I have a reason to look around Lemmy
@revengeday@dataterm.digital Are you aware of any issues with the Calckey instance? Any time I try to access it directly, the home page just loads eternally and then times out. It would be nice if there was some sort of status checker built into the ActivityPub framework that people can use to confirm their favorite instances are running nominally.
Unfortunately, there are still a few small problems with the instance, what you describe we have also noticed.
There will be a few changes in short, I hope that the problem is eliminated. I'm not sure if the VM is too weak or the software is not good enough. By the way, we also have a !nightcitybar community here ;D
Appreciate the update! Sorry if the tone in my first message came off sharp or anything. I've found that I really prefer Calckey as an interface over Mastodon, and really like the community you're building in your instances. I'll be sure to check out the !nightcitybar commune here as well. Out of curiosity, do you know if there's some kind of ActivityPub status checker or if that's something that instance providers would need to create/provide on an individual basis?
There is a way to check if everything is running smoothly, mostly via an API directly from the software. I will soon when I find time create a status page for all the fun pages we have :)
thanks for using Leebra!
