French police kill teen who refused traffic stop

A 17-year-old is shot dead near Paris in broad daylight after failing to obey traffic police.
Remember kids - this is making a blanket assertion about - what several million people? - across all countries and culture worldwide. It's a ludicrous asserting and part of the war on nuance.
Thank you for eloquently making my case.
I agree with much of what you say. I just think it’s purile to claim that anyone, anywhere in the world who takes a job enforcing laws society has enacted is automatically a bastard.
Most importantly, it shuts down discussion about what a good police service looks like and how police services should be reformed or built from the ground up, because it says that just, effective law enforcement is inherently impossible because ‘all cops are bastards’
Remember kids: ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS. No exceptions, nowhere in the world.
This is the mantra of lemmy.ml.
Tell us, how are russian and chinese cops?
Russian and Chinese authoritarianism is bad. America incarcerates more people than both. A French cop shooting a 17 year old during a traffic stop is probably also not a useful use of state force. I could be wrong, but I hope this answers your question.
Let him answer, he is a 7 hours old account who is shouting "all cops are bad" at the young people. I want his version.
I don't quite get the relevency of your question if your issue is with all cops be bad. I mean yes. Chinese and russian cops would be some of the worst examples. Thats not going to lend credence against the statement. I would think something along the lines about naming a cop who has done something heoric recently in the news and asking if they are bad. I realize this is sorta meta but it sounds like you hate the statement with the thread convo but then the question you originally posed does not really challenge the statement.
I've seen this message by the dozen on lemmy, kbin is not some kind of immune territory. They will jump at every opportunity to spread their ideology here.
And no, not all cops are bad. France is not the USA.
And yet here you have a French cop going full 'Murica on a teen during a traffic stop because he may have felt threatened. A bastard is a bastard, no matter the country of origin. Doubly so when they weild the power to enforce the will of the state, because they abuse that power as seen here.
Also, your whataboutism with Chinese or Russian cops is asinine, because worse cops elsewhere doesn't excuse shitty cops in "better" countries.
I've seen cops doing most of the shit you've seen American cops do on the internet, in real life, in Europe. Haven't seen any shoot out but that's because they don't need to, no one here has a gun. But recording cops is illegal over here, in other places you only can record them if they are engaging you and you can't share the clip. The situation may be a bit worse over there because with so many guns perhaps the cops are more wary, but you see so many videos because their freedom of speech is more protected than ours.
Russia and China are not the only ones with very well oiled propaganda machines
Yeah but we perfected it. USA USA!!!
Yeah but America made it bigger. Especially with movies, it is so rare to see an American movie without some gun or shooting.
I'm not saying that the policeman was watching a lot of American movies. But this culture of "shoot on sight" is a thing on many american movies.
@sendingmath I'm gonna guess the kid wasn't white :(
@sendingmath Macron is coming out for the family, against the police
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66045686
"French President Emmanuel Macron came out quickly and strongly in support of the family of 17-year-old Nahel M, calling his shooting by police "inexplicable and inexcusable".
The teenager was shot in his car in the Paris region after failing to stop when ordered to by traffic police.
Video of the incident on social media shows an officer pointing a gun at the driver of a car. The officer then appears to fire at point-blank range as the driver tries to drive off.
Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne said the video of his killing contained "shocking images showing a police intervention manifestly in contravention of the rules".
And Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said that if the "content of the video is confirmed, there is no way that the act which we see there can be justified."
It looks very much as if the government has made a coordinated effort to send out a message of appeasement and pacification.
The police unions are not happy."
