What reelection? It’s already his second term. Hence why he’s so eager to push all those laws, imo. He’s just going to retire after this.

No no no... it's video games' fault that people are mad about the government shooting a kid. Without video games, we would calmly accept it.

This is a misleading headline and not what he said. Let's not become Facebook

So correct the record please. Usually comments add value. Just saying nuh-uh does not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHpqbo7p38Y (this video also has been cut, but this is what he said)

I'm not gonna translate the whole thing. TL;DW: he says that social networks are used by rioters to hype eachother up in order to escalate the violence, like a competition. And he concludes his point by what the article translated correctly "it sometimes feels like some of them are re-living in the streets the video games that have intoxicated them."

But he never blamed video games. He is just repeating what other ministers have said, which is that (according to them) there is "a gamification of riots", were kids are trying to out-compete each other over snapchat, with videos of violence, between housing projects.

He is not blaming video games, he is condemning the escalation and the gamification of riots.

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of macron, but I don't want lemmy to become the next mob-justice/outrage platform. I'm just trying to provide context and nuance, which I would love to be spread across Lemmy.

I couldn't say he is wrong. Last night was around 20th car burned only this year in a small town where I live, nowhere near Paris. The gangs here were known to compete in car burning for years now, nobody has ever been caught.

This clickbait article is my source. Macron's translated quote from the article was

It sometimes feels like some of them are re-living in the streets the video games that have intoxicated them.

This does not mean that Macron blames video games for the riots. That's a straw man argument to create a clickbait article. Why is this post getting up votes? This feels like the kind of posts I'd find on Facebook not a serious world news channel

I read that they were rioting because that young man was shot dead, but not a thing about riots because of how good Diablo 4 is.
