Let's use Reddit as a hosting site instead of imgur

If we host stuff on Reddit and just grab the direct link for the hosted content, it will use their resources in a way that doesn't expose anyone to their advertisements.

Ah yes, let's become reliant on Reddit. I don't think this has ever gone wrong before.

Wouldn't they just block hotlinking from anything but *.reddit.com?

Yeah that would be trivial for them to block. With their new API changes I’d be slightly surprised if it even works at all. (Only slightly)

I think this is funny/not a bad idea; if I can pile on, I’d just obscure any descriptive text / metadata as much as possible. Example, instead of a post of:

“My orange cat, Milo” with a file name of “milo_couch_feb_2023.png”, use “hYU68ndnjJhHnNdh74836.png” for both.

Stripping as much context and GPT-mineable data as possible prevents local community discussion and business value, and should result in a net burden for their site. Maybe. 🤷‍♂️

Probably possible to create an auto-uploader that accomplishes this.
