Yes, they literally explicitly said this. There also wasnt even "Chinese propaganda", the just didn't care to censor pro-palestine content and that's unacceptable to the US.
@lemmy.ml
"Prosecute every employee of ICE" is the center-left position. "Abolish ICE" is centerism and they can't even bother with that.
Neither of these are extremist positions and are fully compatible with a liberal democracy. I just want to see these people given a fair trial and punished appropriately for their violations of the law.
"Defund ICE" is already a right-wing position.
You can enforce immigration and border controls without ICE. It was functioning just fine until 2003. In your attempt to find a "middle ground" position I dont think your landing pint is reasonable.
It's a wise decision by instance admins to have a clean separation between regular and NSFW content IMO.
I think it's likely that there will be a parallel NSFW fediverse that has little overlap with regular content, and that's probably for the best.
Just FYI to people that you can get remanufactured ink cartridges for a fraction of the price (around half) of OEM. They are sometimes modified to contain more ink in the same body. The company I purchased from included a prepaid bag to send used cartridges back for reuse.
Also while I'm in PSA mode "REDUCE, REUSE, and then recycle". Sometimes we skip over the first two steps since reducing is not marketable and reusing rarely is (although reusing printer cartridges appears to be a sustainable business).
Key difference is that Bitcoin people want/need their numbers to go up,up,up as a measure of success.
Here, we are hoping to cultivate a healthy community (at either/both the instance and fediverse level). From my experience on various subreddits, focusing on growth is not a good way to do this.
Communities are defined more by who is not allowed in than by who is in the community. Lemmy phase 2 kicked off back in June, and it still needs some time to find its footing at a sustainable rate of growth.
I sort of agree with you but if liberals acknowledged and understood class alignment, they wouldn't be liberals. I do think that the "opportunity for education" approach is more effective than outright hostility.
I find that online interactions about complicated topics can be quite frustrating, since snark and "dunking" trend to prevail. This is driven by corporate social media and spills over into other online interactions.
We can leave it at the same volume. Its not "all men are bad" even, no need to make things up, its embedded misogyny, even perpetuated by women at times.
The question why is "lesbian" porn, in the "straight" section?
Why would a straight woman on a porn site expect to see lesbian porn when they select to see straight porn? It's a double standard.
If men (or anyone else) wanted to watch lesbian porn, there's nothing wrong with that, it just seems out of place in the straight section, cause that's not what it is.
Not true, the department ment was moved under the Department of Homeland Security. This reorganization has had a demonstrable effect in how it is led. There is nothing they do that can't be dealt with by other law enforcement. The DHS itself was a ridiculous ratcheting of the surveillance/police state "in response to 9-11" (that's the excuse that was dropped in their lap).
Easily the best answer here, I think the people who think it will work "just like Reddit" are unfamiliar with federation still, and aren't used to thinking things through in those terms.
Not to mention that Google results in general have been pretty trash for a couple years now. I don't expect fediverse content to be prominent for some time unless there is a dedicated service that indexes everything.
I'd thought that even the most liberal people on nü-Lemmy had at least read some Chomsky (or even watched the documentaries based on his work), but I guess we aren't even there yet.
I have a feeling that given a couple of years, things will settle out a bit and be more like Mastodon.
Could you imagine if your ISP/Gmail was so particular about what servers you could send email to?
There will always be valid reasons to defederate, although I think the bar for that is going to end up pretty high and well-defined in the future, but it's sort of an organic process to get there.
So some people really not grasp that?
Actually, yes, the original FOSS movement had more right-libertarian roots than anything to the left, although nowadays some might see it as "common ground".
It's not "leftist" necessarily, but all leftists should inform themselves about the Russian Revolution IMO, which is covered by season 10 (the final and currently ongoing season) of the Revolutions|^Spotify^ podcast.
Mike Duncan isn't explicitly leftist or anything, but he really does his homework and portrays things in a really neutral way. Whether or not you are a big stan of the USSR and what came after, the Russian Revolution was the most successful attempt at overthrowing capitalism (to an extent), and any future movement should learn from and analyze all aspects of what happened in those years.
Citations Needed|^Spotify^ is my other favorite with their in-depth media criticism (if you like Chomsky's stuff, you'll probably like what they have to say).
