Is there a stallmanwasright community here yet? This would fit in there.
Every user on threads has something in common. They were stupid enough to join threads.
I'm depriving myself of nothing by defederating that mess.
This sort of stuff is crucial and needs to be built in.
Most instances are one user's whim away from going away. This isn't a problem as long as clients back things up and migration is easy. But, that doesn't happen right now.
Guarantee we'll see some big news at points in the future when a big instance goes down because the owner died or just lost interest.
Again, these are easily overcome, but they are issues right now.
The Robert Jordan Wheel of Time books. By book 7 I hated the main characters and really hated the writing style. The repetition. The repetition. The repetition...
The Sanderson books were ok, but they couldn't rescue the series and I got no joy from finishing it. A lot of relief though to be done with it.
Absolutely. Gonna set up my own Lemmy instance so I can defederate any corporate instance. If other people want to accept their smallpox blankets, that's on them.
Awesome! I was hoping this would be possible. I plan to host my own instance hobbit.world and would need to migrate everything.
Also, I'll defederate any corporate instances. No need to encourage bad actors.
The same science has happened in two places at once before. Lots of people rush to publish to avoid getting scooped.
Religion is just fiction, so this has not happened there. Heck, Joseph Smith couldn't even invent his religion twice without messing things up.
Maybe not precisely the same as the quote, but it's pretty similar. If there was a true religion, you'd expect it to have happened many times identically all over the world.
Can we use ai to judge emotional content of threads so I can get recommendations for threads where people are relaxed and happy?
The sub apparently had a regular "I am ok" ping as well as a way to transmit text messages. How did those work? And if they worked, why couldn't they do more?
Well, I just made hobbit.world and intend to only have Tolkien related communities there. So block away if that's not your thing. However, the only way to block an instance is to defederate and that's kind of harsh. Hopefully the feature of blocking communities by instance is added.
I have usb-c chargers scattered around the house so that I can charge whatever I have (phone, iPad, Switch) wherever I am. Prefer a single standard, whatever it is.
Too many answers trying to game the system. Have fun with it!
If this was earlier in the day, I would drive to a pinball arcade that is maybe 40 minutes away, and offer them the entire million for every pinball machine they had. Hopefully the owner could be contacted and close the deal within the remaining 20 minutes.
I wish there would be time to buy a boat. I know nothing about sailing or maintaining a boat, but I would love to just drive to a marina and just get a 50 foot sailing boat.
Meh. I was there 15 years. I'm not missing anything by being here instead. Heck, I feel like here is the more exciting place to be!
BTW, of they ask why I'm in such a hurry, I'll say I have a Brewster's Millions situation and hope they'd seen the movie. We could relax after the deal was done.
Thank you! I got that and tapped on it before fully reading it, but it just brought up the broken app.
I wanted to see the final words and now I have.
Looking forward to seeing the app again for Lemmy, so not really goodbye.
If the lying thing was universal, I'd go with that. The world would be better if the powerful couldn't lie.
But just lies to me personally? That'd barely change my life at all.
Seeing anything in history though? That'd be amazing. It'd be work, but I could probably witness events and then work backwards and publish papers on it using publicly available information. Knowing the answer to start with would certainly make that sort of thing easier.
The Curta calculator is a marvel of engineering made by a guy who developed it while imprisoned by Nazis.
You specify numbers on the side and spin the handle up top to add them. You multiply numbers by specifying one number on the side then spinning the handle and rotating the collar.
Hard to describe via text. But there are lots of YouTube videos about it.
This particular model is special because it's a cutaway model meant for demonstrating how it works internally. It's a rare version of an already rare calculator and I absolutely love it.
The Curta feels so tactile in the way it works. You can feel the numbers being added when you rotate the handle and feel the zip of the mechanical parts interacting.
There are so many responses for Bitwarden that I am suspicious. Is it just that popular, or is this some sort of astroturfing? I didn't think Lemmy was popular enough to attract that, but who knows.
Actually, clicking those links actually works! Hooray!
I was under the impression that you were supposed to be able to search for "!hobbit_art@hobbit.world" in the community search bar and find things there. Now that I know it works, I've found that simply modifying the community url also works. So going to: https://lemmy.world/c/hobbit_art@hobbit.world actually jumps me right to it.
So, looks like it was already working. Thanks!
thanks for using Leebra!
