I’m starting to get the data hoarding crowd more and more. We have been taught this dream of “the internet never forgets” but people missed to mention that it’s on the average Janes and Joes to make sure that is the case. Corporations want the internet to forget because it’s better for business.

Can’t we ever have software that just keeps working? Password managers are like the new RSS readers.

  1. search around for a good one
  2. find a nice one and start using it
  3. they add stuff you didn’t want and slowly make it worse
  4. they’re bought up/ abandoned/ otherwise become unviable

Back to 1)

We literally removed "don't be evil" from our mission statement, but you can totally trust us, bro.

I notice there are several similar domains by now. I know a few people who have this is the forever status message in the work messaging tool

I share a lot of of the criticism towards AirBnB. However, I've often ended up using them either way. We travel with a dog and a toddler. They need to be allowed in the first place. And ideally we get a kitchen, a separate room so we can still have normal noise and light when the kid sleeps. Often we even find Airbnbs with toys, kids books, dog beds, treats on the table when we arrive, ...

You simply don't get that in hotels. At least not in a price range I've considered so far

Regardless of whether or not they're from the same day and what caffeine does: that's so much waste! If you drink at the same place, get a fucking reusable cup! Cutting down on this nonsense would do so much more than damn paper straws. It's not even hard. Drinking out of a nice cup is more enjoyable too. I really hate when I forgot my thermos or a store refuses to fill it

At this point being banned might be a good thing to drive home the point that also my favorite of the old corporate internet platforms should be avoided. I'm doing quite okay on staying away from Meta and have long deleted my Twitter account. I can't get myself do drop Reddit somehow. Seems like they're only helping me get off my addiction

If you're sent to Afghanistan for murder and tried for murder there, I might get that. Not agree, but get it.

But if you shoplift, are sent to Afghanistan and then they kill you because you're gay, then the German government clearly has your blood on their hands. That's fucking disgusting.

This is why most of the world literally laughs about the US. Civilized countries have long removed finance from the worries you have when getting into an accident.

The Logitech MX Master is the best productivity mouse ever. Apple apparently has no desire to compete with it.

Seems like "drain the swamp" turned into "put the swamp monster in charge, give it steroids and flood the forest"

If only all the "freedom loving" idiots noticed that enabling all members of society to be mobile regardless of physical abilities, place or wealth, is true freedom for a society.

Being enslaved to a metal box on wheels clearly isn't freedom.

This thread mostly shows how broken the democratic system in the US is, not that she did anything wrong. Try coming to a real democracy with many parties and coalitions being formed. They actually thrive on dissent, finding compromise and collaborating for the greater good ;)

Worse: they have a PowerPoint slide behind them showing 99% of the stuff they're saying and you're done reading the slide when their audio track is only 20% in

Germans against Nazis wouldn't use the German flag. If you brought one to the protest you'd probably be considered an intruder from the Nazi side

I’d love to use Signal exclusively and recommend it or move over group chats wherever possible. But some friends and family keep me on WhatsApp and messenger. IMHO using those less is better than using them a lot and having more apps is better than socially isolating yourself.

Big oil forced that shit onto you instead of going the far superior EV route from the beginning. Now EVs are finally taking over and I'm happy my kids never have to get fuel grease on their hands and suffer those nasty fumes at gas stations. Shifters were needed for an inferior technology to work. I liked it as an experience when I learned to drive. But cars are mostly transport due to failure of better public transport infrastructure. I don't care whether they're fun. I drive for fun on the Xbox or maybe in a GoKart every few years.

Oh that felt good to rant.
