Exactly, it's not only deceptive but also ignoring the fact that many visitors are likely not earning on par with people in New York and are making decisions about where to eat based on the advertised prices.

All these bars and restaurants talking about how busy they've been and have massively increased business during the world cup. They're aware of the tipping problem yet still somehow can't find the cash to cover the difference so that their staff get a normal wage.

They could share some of their revenue windfall with the wait staff. But instead they complain to news outlets and add an automatic 20% markup without prior notice to extract even more money from the visitors.

That's my point.

Regularly going to ATMs / banks is demonstrably less convenient for both consumers and businesses and safeguarding the cash presents a security risk, especially for small businesses.

But the alternative of digital payments comes at a huge cost to privacy.

Security Privacy. They are distinct concepts.

For example, tokenised and biometrically authenticated transactions are more secure and more convenient than cash payments which are comparatively riskier, easier to forge, easier to steal etc.

However, this allows banks and payment providers to keep tabs on your transaction data, which cash does not.

Convenience and privacy are usually at opposite ends, security can come at either end depending on the medium.

It is more secure.

It's much easier to steal cash than to force someone to unlock a device and make a payment, so yes it is more secure.

I didn't say 100% unbeatable.

I especially hate when you're waiting to cross and people slow down to a stop and then wave you across, but there was no-one behind them.

You could have just carried on at the same speed and we'd both have got on with our day sooner.

You are both correct, the law states that it has to be as easy to opt out as in, but most companies are not implementing it correctly

One of the big things they taught us in history lessons was how he came across very charismatic and that he was good at winning people over.

It's really important for people to understand and learn in order to not repeat the mistakes of populism, evil people don't generally go around shouting about how evil they are.

I'm from the UK where it's at least banned indoors.

Visiting European pubs/bars where people still smoke is nuts and my clothes always stink after
