Some great engagement on this post. And it seems to have pulled in some outsiders. And spurred uncensored debate. I'm bullish on Lemmy.

In the Resurgence from February 24 subsection of the GameStop short squeeze article, I wrote, "GameStop reported on their Form 10-Q that, as of June 1, 2023, their investors had directly registered (DRSed) 76.6 million shares with their transfer agent via the direct registration system."

I appreciate you building a record of the censorship on r/superstonk!

I appreciate you keeping watch! I just checked the article, and I see still the sentence that I wrote at the end of the introductory paragraph. I also checked the revision history, and my edit is the latest. I also tried logging out of my account, and I still see the the sentence that I wrote. So no reversion yet!

Lemmy as it exists therefore in my opinion is already causing Reddit to be better, because Reddit knows that if they are not better people will leave Reddit.

In my opinion, the r/superstonk Community Council exists precisely because of competitive pressure from alternatives like our Lemmy server.

Sometimes, not always, they are a zero-sum game: one person’s win is another person’s defeat.

Thanks for your comment –– you make some good points. While I agree that this conflict will have a winner and a loser, considering all of the stakeholders, I disagree that it is a zero-sum game. If the bears win, then a $5 billion company goes out of business, and 25,000 employees lose their jobs (negative sum). If the bulls win, then GameStop continues to provide value to customers –– and potentially enters into emerging markets like NFTs (positive sum).

The whole NFT thing was dead on arrival

I don't think that NFTs were necessarily a bad decision. It gives GameStop a stake in a potential transition from brick and mortar to digital downloads. Shareholders asked for an NFT dividend, similar to Overstock, so GameStop would need experience. And crypto in general could be a transparent alternative to a corrupt financial system. Gary Gensler shot down Ryan Cohen's balloon with Operation Chokepoint –– broadening the definition of securities, suing crypto companies, and creating regulatory uncertainty.

you don’t understand statistics and probability

Dude, the post is a master's thesis from Ghent University. It is at least as statistically rigorous as any comment on Lemmy.

If Valve is having genuine problems with antitrust, that might create a good opportunity for a company like GameStop

Also, the Digital Markets Act in the European Union is cracking down on abuse by large platforms and opening up the market to up-and-coming players.

It certainly seems like the moderators are trying to influence discussions of the difference between DRS and Plan.

Reddit admins have imposed a lot of law and order on the superstonk sub.

Reddit allows discussion of Lemmy –– e.g. r/lemmy. r/superstonk censors discussion of Lemmy. Therefore the censorship of Lemmy comes from the r/superstonk moderators –– not from the Reddit administrators.

"There is no historical precedent of a public company having a mass wave of direct share registration by individual investors in a company that was not at an acute risk of bankruptcy." It's an experiment because no one knows what will happen. What if it turns out that there are millions of "phantom shares" out there? Like with Dole Food.
