@lemmy.ml

That's great to hear. Good luck! I wish I could de-Google my family too.

I'm currently testing /e/OS from Murena myself, but on a Fairphone 6, not a Murena device. The system itself is fine. Takes some getting used to, but no problem. Hope you enjoy it =D

Is there a program or a way to tell what apps currently on ones phone will be affected by this?

Hi.

As far as I know, there is no program with which you can check this.

But, I know that for example F-Droid apps on Google-certified devices will no longer be usable, because these apps are not registered in the Play Store. According to the KeepAndroidOpen page, this will no longer work.

I want to add: According to the Samsung Galaxy Store Seller Portal, apps that are already installed will remain usable, just without updates.

Hopes, that helped.

So, did I understood correctly that just getting pixel with GrapheneOS is way out?

I can't really say anything about that, sorry. I'm not familiar with GrapheneOS or Google Pixel. As far as I know, Play Services can apparently be installed in a sandbox?.... but I didn't quite get it either. So I can't say whether the system will be affected by Google's rules. Sorry I can't help further.

Hey. I'm trying to see everything positively though. I know its sucks, and im angry too. But how secure can a Google-certified device be AGAINST GOOGLE anyway? I could only deactivate the systems, which is why I wanted to buy an /e/OS device. And the news from F-Droid that Google was going to pull this shit was the kick in the ass I needed to finally buy a Fairphone with /e/OS.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts so openly. Sorry my message came off as "low energy" to you. But to me, it still holds up logically. Google makes money mostly from ads and our data. The more people boycott their products, the less funding goes to things like Project Nimbus. De-googled setups, a phone, an app, a browser, give me hope. This isn't just about privacy for me, it's about human rights! And i hope ther will coming more Alternatives.

Again: Thanks for sharing your openion so openly.

You make a good point. And its so true. I know a lot of people who also dont care about Google Problems.

I'm just familiar with /e/OS so far. I've disabled microG and don't use a single Google app. But I can't judge the people who using it. The problem is really the ecosystem. Many companies build on Google, which means they're not independent. The End result is : There are no real alternatives. So people only know Google and nothing else

Hey, honestly I don't know much about GrapheneOS. I only know it's available for Google Pixels. But you're right. All Google-certified devices will be 'locked down!'

I believe you may mean Darth Vader.....

😅You're right. Thanks for the correction!

You have a good point. I also know many of people who have no clue about this. I talked a lot about this but they dont care. Anyway for me, every setback, even if it's just a brief blip for Google is a triumph. Of course , a longer triumph will be great, but yeah.. that is just my openion. And thanks again, for the Darth Vader Correction 👍🏻

Upgrading Lumo is really great. For me, it's a wonderful alternative to ChatGPT. However, I have a question regarding the web search feature. Which index are you using? I boycott big tech companies and don't want to send data to their servers, even not anonymously! I contacted the Proton support team, and they assured me that you don't use Google or Bing APIs and that Proton is experimenting with Mojeek, Brave, and Kagi. But Kagi is a meta-search engine that, as far as I know, accesses Google. I'm therefore confused. An answer would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello. That connection thing is cool. So I have no experience with meta-search engines. I gave up on Brave after I learned that it's hosted on AWS. My only search engine is Mojeek because it's not hosted on big tech like, Azure AWS, or Google Cloud.

Hi. Thanks for writing back.

Honestly, I'm super confused. Because actually phishing is when they ask about your password and all that classic stuff. But no! I had a normal chat. I saw links, and thank God I didn't click them. But the biggest warning sign is the domain. I can't find this domain on the official Proton website: https://proton.me/blog/report-phishing-emails

My mail says: support@proton*me.zendesk.com*
but it should say: support@proton*mail.zendesk.com.*

According to Proton: "if an email claiming to be from us does not have this badge, then it is a phishing attack." So this must be a phishing attack.

I contacted Proton about four days ago, but they still haven't answered. So I think I'll try my luck here.

I'm glad I could give you hope for the future. But that is based on reciprocity as well. I am new to Lemmy and really didn't expect to be welcomed so warmly☺️. Your comments and the appreciation have truly made me happy. Thank you for that🌹.Peace be upon you all.

That's cool. I'm still new to the privacy community, so I only share things I've learned. But this is really helpful.

Hi, thx for your Comment.

I'm aware that you can't stop all at once. For me it was also step by step until I could boycott everything completely. Anyway, I looked into it for you. There's an "App Lounge" where you can log in with your Gmail account to access Google apps. You can also browse there anonymously. I think it's like the Aurora Store, but I'm not really familiar with that. As for Maps, Murena apparently has its own map app, but I use the one from F-Droid "OpenStreetMap". I hope I could help you.

Thanks for explaining! Honestly, I'm not familiar with political labels like 'left' or 'liberal'. I actually had to look them up before replying 😅. So I'm not sure where I fit in.

For me, data privacy is just about being practical and ethical. I hate it when big corps like Google use my data for things I can't control, like military projects. It makes me angry, when they turn a tiny mosquito into a weapon. I see that happening with AI too. I'm against that.

I don't know if that makes me 'left' or 'liberal'😅. My goal on forums like Lemmy is simply to find like-minded people, who share this ethical approach and to make friends there😊. Thats it.
