I love when the track goes completely silent for a single rest after some buildup and then punches back into the full chorus. If that “gap” in noise is part of the melody itself it’s even cooler. It makes the following sound so much more impactful, even if the actual volume hasn’t increased by much.

I know a lot of women who have played sim/management games like The Sims, Zoo Tycoon, Stardew Valley, etc.

A lot of this comes down to the actual survey questions that were used. If the wording of the survey questions was “Have you ever played…” as opposed to “Do you regularly play…” for example, then the numbers could be quite skewed.

Well, self awareness goes a long way, so you’re on the right path. Lots of people get crotchety and cynical by focusing too much on things that are outside their control. Focus more on areas of your life that you can influence, and learn to enjoy your life for what it is rather than what it could be.

Honestly, if you’re the type of person who’s prone to this, disengaging from hyper cynical social media platforms (yes, including Lemmy) is probably another good idea.

My dad used to be super into politics and consumed rage-bait news on TV and social media a lot, especially during the height of covid. Once he unplugged from all of that there was a noticeable shift in his demeanor and I would say that he’s significantly happier and more content now.

Weapons, armor, equipment, upgrades, etc. in single-player games that have effects that have tradeoffs or very niche use-cases are unfun. I can understand it in multiplayer competitive games where balance is important, but effects like “provides 20% more defense versus ” or “increases range, but decreases damage” just deflate me when I get them in games. If I’m spending time playing a game, I want to earn things that make me objectively better as I progress. Developers of modern games seem waaay to preoccupied with holding back and not allowing things to be “broken” in games where it just doesn’t matter.

JSON by a mile. I hate the YAML plague, it’s some of the most unintuitive syntax I’ve seen and yet it’s everywhere in DevOps/SysOps.

As someone who owns both and a PC as well, yes. Playing my steam library in bed is incredible. Also, if you have a larger library, it can be cheaper to just buy a Deck than re-buying everything on a different platform.

I recall hearing a long time ago that most news sites, magazines, newspapers, etc. tend to target a sixth grade reading level. So, I don’t know if there’s been a sharp rise, but it’s not really surprising considering how far beyond most readers should be.

Makes sense. I bought one secondhand and still got the digital goodies.

Consumer 3D printing. I still can’t get over the fact that I’m able to get a device for only a few hundred bucks that lets me manufacture almost any kind of simple widget on-demand in a matter of hours. It feels like I’m living in the future.

There are certain timed events that will trigger if you long rest nearby, so make sure if you’re near a place that looks like it needs immediate attention, that you don’t long rest quite yet.

There’s a reason why PETG/PLA are used as interface materials for supports in multi-material printers. There’s no molecular bond and so the parts will snap off very easily.

If you’re looking for a good JRPG, I can’t recommend the Persona series enough. I hate traditional JRPG’s but I love Persona and have dumped literally hundreds of hours into P5/ P5 Royal. I know it’s not pixel art, but the art style is very unique and fun to look at.

I'm not sure if it's content or just functionality. I really would like lemmy to be more Google-able than it currently is as I still don't have a replacement for " reddit" like I did with, well, Reddit.

Also, something that will probably take a lot longer is generating content for older/dead topics. For example, my wife and I are watching The Sopranos for the first time, and I used to love being able to search for old discussion threads on each episode. Since Lemmy is much newer, discussions about these kinds of things may never happen at all unless I create a thread, and even if I do, it's unlikely that it'll see much discussion as it's no longer relevant or interesting, especially as you get into more niche interests and topics.

I haven’t found anything personally that I want to play that I can’t play as I play a lot of indie games and singleplayer games. Proton is pretty incredible. YMMV though. If you play games that heavily rely on mouse and keyboard and twitch reflexes, or any game that has strict anti-cheat/DRM, you might have a suboptimal experience or not be able to play it at all.

My wife and I have gone on and off Keto/Low-carb diets when we start gaining weight and it works really well for both of us I ended up losing ~30lbs in the first four months. I haven’t really had to watch calories at all as the diet itself will usually naturally lower your calorie intake for the same volume of food. I don’t work out at all as I don’t have the time in my schedule between kids, work, and social obligations. I’m a programmer as well so all of my work is done sitting at a desk

I usually watch a video after reading the rules and trying to play for a little bit. It usually helps cover the gaps in understanding or areas that I’ve misinterpreted the rules, while also allowing myself to become familiar enough with the game that I don’t get lost.
