Users can block whole communities just like blocking individuals, I hope people will consider doing that before advocating complete defederation if possible.
Disclosure, sh.itjust.works isn't my home server but we're obviously federated.

I find it so wonderful I’ve come back for the first time since last year. It’s rekindled my belief in Lemmy as a viable platform in the fediverse and I’m even considering reactivating my lemmy instance.
-That guy named AyyLMAO
Well, how about this:
You're dealing with people that left reddit because the moderation wasn't strong enough. By default, "regular stuff" isn't filtered enough for them. So when you people come here with your regular stuff and they don't have the manpower to filter through it, they decided to shut the gates. For now.
To be honest, I'm glad we're on a platform where the default is "I don't want to hear that so I'll ignore you" instead of "I don't want to hear that so I'll try to silence you".
It can be interpreted as Marxism-Leninism, which I'm pretty sure both Lemmy and Lemmygrad have stated is the intention.
Also they were dirt cheap/free when the first Lemmy instances were launched. 😁
Different perspectives, I estimate reddit have realised that they can do literally whatever they want - And most users don't care. Compare the engagement in the community regarding this matter by number of reddit users.
And for those who do care INTENSELY, most of those users will be back in two to three days!
At this point it seems akin to the sort of psychological dependence I've seen in abusive
As someone who was on Lemmy very early on but left due to the toxicity of the core community, I find it so wonderful I've come back for the first time since last year. It's rekindled my belief in Lemmy as a viable platform in the fediverse and I'm even considering reactivating my lemmy instance.
The only thing I'm afraid of is the newcomers being influenced by certain established instances and their anti-social and politically fundamentalist way as that would ruin this unique chance for Lemmy to grow.
I have no reason to believe either of the lead devs are employed by the Chinese.
They're very outspoken communist sympathizers and run their own instance with their own rules. I don't find that suspicious at all. Should I assume conservative instances are run by the US deep state ayy LMAO
If they came out of nowhere with a pre-packaged, all finished closed-source product I'd be worried.
I believe that people who troll have so little positivity and power in their life that any reaction, attention or possibility to influence anything is like a treasure to them.
Much in the same way I think about reddit moderators, come to think of it.
I don’t see a reason to hope for it.
I do. I find their business practice to be unwanted, I want less companies to treat their users like that. Having companies that behaves like reddit go under will make other companies not behave like that. And if it doesn't, we'll run out of companies that behaves like reddit because they've all crashed and burned.
It's not revenge. It's not hate. It's me hoping there will less of what I consider bad in the world. If anything, it's love towards the future me and you.
And sure things are allowed to change and end, but it's still a tragedy when something beautiful is drained of it's lifeblood because of greed. Like what slowly happened to reddit over close to a decade.
Users are unable to block whole instances
Much needed.
Keep in mind Lemmy is version 0 point 17. Blocking individual communities has seemingly been prioritized and I agree. I've not seen a single instance exclusively filled with communities I've felt I needed avoid, but every single instance has a few communities I'd want to block if it got federated to my home server.
There is no possibility to migrate or backup your subscribed/favorited stuff or even move it to another instance
Also much needed.
Keep in mind Lemmy is vers... Well, you know how it goes. I'm somewhat expecting both instance blocking and user migration to be sorted out down the line or by forks.
I know Ruud from Mastodon. He seems cool and legit.
I don't care about overtaking reddit, all I want is for the fascistic and discriminatory lemmy.ml to be dwarfed into irrelevance. Or become more notorious, so the number of instances that block them is steadily rising like now.
After seeing one of the reddit refugees describe Lemmy.ml as an communist server that most instances just block, I knew there was hope again.
I think that new user was in Lemmy.world. 😁
What can I say? If people can't accept that other people might have different opinions and worldview, it's not people I think I'd miss the opportunity to interact with. So I don't really lament those who block my home instance.
To address your surprise; it seems that the majority of new people coming to the Lemmyverse are reasonable and thinking people.
thanks for using Leebra!
