Well, he's got that one right.

Elections should be as low tech as possible. Everything going on should be verifiable with your eyes and basic tools only.

Keep it simple and keep it monitored by at least 3 to 5 people at all times.

who cares if the counting takes a few days, as long as i can trust the results.

And dear fellows in the USA, for the love of god, move the voting day to a Sunday already.

This looks silly from an outside perspective:

IIRC the special thing about student loans in the US is that you cannot default out of them. So even if I go through bankruptcy, I will still owe this specific debt.

The obvious fix would be to deny student loans this special treatment.

I could imagine that this would also have a positive effect on the cost of tuition in the US, as the collection of these stupidly high debts would be far from guaranteed.

Handy: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.frju.flym/ Eine lokale Android-App

It really does feel a bit like the old days ^tm^ (IRC and random PHP boards for me) and it gives me a bit of hope that some of the spirit of the old Wild West Internet is still here. To be honest I engaged more with lemmy in the last few days, then with anything in the last 5 Years.

Unfortunately, I think the feediverse in its unpolished, unoptimised and non-compliant state will run into some legal trouble as soon as it hits a certain popularity threshold.

*Looking at you EU and your relentless drive towards censorship >.>

In the worst case, we will have to rebuild a feediverse in the darker corners of the net.

I never really understood that:

If I'm using my browser to do banking via the website, Having root privileges and tampering with the Browser running the applications is not an issue.

If i use the banking app, Having root privileges suddenly become a problem.

--> To me, it doesn't look like the problem is technical, but that users are accepting things on mobile that they wouldn't accept on a PC.

This topic came up in a couple of posts here before, with different proposed solutions like

  • "only local users should have a vote"
  • "only trusted users should have a vote"
  • "only paying users should have a right to vote"

I too see the potential for fake votes becoming a problem, but at the moment i don't like the solutions.

at some point we probably will have to vote on it. ;)

Well ... at least it's ..... well it's something

i guess thats better than nothing ..... apart from the negative press they are getting.

Well at least it's cheaper than keeping an LHD option!

SailfishX is a usable daily driver with decent Android app support.

BUT: you’ll have to be okay with dealing with random annoyances like:

-> Your default weather app lost the ability to get weather data.

-> Some Xperia 10 III devices lose audio after some time when using GPS. Unless you are in Finland, then you are fine. Nobody knows why.

I would rather have us finish the the vote with the current process, before we make changes to it.

In my experience changing to much stuff at once, makes it difficult to find out what the one single change actually did.

I verry much like OMV, simply because i could use it with knowledge i already have.

It is a Debian system -> I understand that

It uses normal RAID and ext4 -> I understand that (Plus, if things go wrong, I can just pop the drives back into any other computer and use it without much fuss)

It has a rSnapshot plug in -> I already used that in the past.

Sure I'm missing out on fancy stuff like BTRFS / ZFS, but i can live with that.

  • Please read with a very thick German accent

Well .... you see, we would like to help, but there are just more important things in this budget.

Like the ~900m financial aid to India. (A country with a quite successful space program, and currently a part of Russia’s Oil laundering machine.)

Or like the ~600m financial aid to the PRC. (A country with a far superior space program than ours, and a weapons supplier to Russia.)

Oh and don't forget the measly but oh so important 24m financial aid for bicycle paths in Peru.

So you see, there is simply nothing we can do, ukraine is just not important enough ¯_(ツ)_/¯

/s

  • Figures taken from memory and also from past budgets, so please enjoy with a grain a lot of salt

Personally, I kind of think there’s a reason why direct democracy isn’t used for this kind of stuff. If we really want a democratic forum we should have representatives,

Looking at the current state of the real world and real representative systems, i'm quite excited to see where this small direct democracy thing here is going.

--> Hey it works for the swiss, maybee it can work for us too. ;)
