Not going to judge for taking an opportunity, but cheating is super fucked up regardless of which side you're on.
@lemmy.world
I have a relative that's an electrician working on a DC. He's been one it for a year and has about two years left to completion. All of the electricians that are willing and able are working weekends on overtime pay to get this done, it's all voluntary shifts.
He was talking numbers the other day, and their company gets to keep the difference is cost on the project if they come in under budget, and they're on track to make over 1 million on top of what they quoted. None of that is being dispersed amongst the workers, at least for now. He said they recently did their weekly dialogue where everyone gets together in a room to talk about the project, and said it was abnormally quiet. People are upset and burning out. He said they could pay everyone an extra $20k a year out of that excess, and that may turn the motivation around, but so far nothing.
My point on that is, yea, they do need as many electricians as they can get, but thanks to capitalism, it ain't going to happen and they're going to start losing workers. That aligns with Jensen here, because like everyone other douchebag with power, he wouldn't be saying this if the futures didn't looked bleak on the work force. I also don't know if $20k a year extra will be enough to offset 60 hour weeks specifically working on DCs.
I live in a city where most of the bike lanes are just a dedicated shoulder. When I'm driving on these roads, 100% of the time if I'm following someone, they will drift into the bike lane. I also ride my bike in that lane, so I'm extra alert to it. Not so much a parking issue, but lazy and distracted drivers are a plenty.
As someone who's had some anger issues, it's all about learning to cope and how to handle those situations in a civil manner. I've cut some activities out of my life because they were too triggering for me. I've learned to chill out for most things but not all.
As others have mentioned, everyone gets angry, but not everyone lashes out. Sometimes you just have to eat a turd sandwich and move on. I wouldn't say it's a mental health condition, just lack of self control and coping mechanisms that would have ideally been instilled at a young age and cultivated through adulthood.
LLMs are not intelligent. They never will be because they can't be. The technology is all about drawing correlation between words, but they don't know what the words means or even what words are. "Intelligence" is a misnomer. Yes LLMs will get better at what they do, but they will never be intelligent.
I can look back on different ages and see how much more adulty I am today. I thought I was smart and mostly an adult at 18, but I remember thinking people in the low 20s were notably older than me. Then when I was in my upper 20s, I realized just how wrong I was. I feel the upper 20s was a bit of a turning point for me but mostly because I got married which is a major adult life event. Now in my upper 30s, I can see how yound I was in my upper 20s.
I 100% agree, with that feeling of older people just being my peers. Hitting the workforce full-time and working with other adults that have been doing it for decades really opens your eyes a bit. Now I have a boss 10 years younger than me and a new guy in my team 10 years older. Other than the older guy and me getting each other's dated references, were all pretty much the same socially. I usually forget there's an age gap unless I specifically point it out.
We can take that further. It's the core tenant of capitalism, so definitely ride share, but also most other companies. Most other companies aren't as popular as Uber and Lyft though.
Clearly there are environmental factors that lead to this. Nature vs nurture. There are plenty of well adjusted men that don't suck so it's not an inherent trait. I think it's already happening to some degree, but there needs to be more of a societal change in teaching boys about empathy and masculinity. Not promote masculinity, but to understand it better.
I know when I was young, boys crying was unacceptable. You had to be tough. It's those kinds of lessons that lead to men being not well adjusted adults. As a guy I can obviously relate to this rage bait comic to a degree, but I was fortunately raised in a stable home around good people that taught me empathy.
I also hate generalities, like "all men", "all women", "every person form , so I find it acceptable whenever any person is wrapped up in one that they can defend themselves. It's these kinds of statements like what this comic is saying, that lead to men isolating themselves or turning to masculine echo chambers for support. It's part of the problem. If people want change, they need to act in a manner that allows it. Don't generalize people, listen, interpret, and then act on that information appropriately. Some people can't be reasoned with in the manosphere, but some can. If you want change for the better, then it takes effort on both sides.
I've travelled out of the country a few times under Trump's rule. I bet clearly make my opinions if Trump known, and can usually find a common ground with the people in interacting with.
Like, wouldn't travel to the middle east and try to play that game, but most people are pretty reasonable and understanding, especially if you're in a touristy area where the economy is almost entirely based on you spending money.
Just try not to draw attention to yourself, be respectful, and talk shit about Trump and his band of merry racist cunts if needed.
I feel like you've never seen the movie Idiocracy before. It's about how the general population gets stupider over time and finally when the most average person in the world finds himself in the future with all of the dumbs, he's the smartest person in the world. That's the whole point of the movie. Sure the movie setup is different than this in that it's about the only worst people reproducing and raising dumb children to perpetuate that cycle.
Your initial response was hostile to OP, and then you had your feelings hurt when they responded sternly? Then you throw fucking tantrum like a the dumbs in Idiocracy, which again, I think you should watch, so that next time you care to talk about the movie, you at least have a base understanding of what it's about. Fucking grow up.
Do you tip before you get your meal? If not then they are just working to get you through faster, because a standard 15% every 30 min is better than hoping for 20% for a longer customer.
I've read that there are masses that are now shorting the stock too, and they're making money on the dip. Those wouldn't be your average buyer. Although idk if any of that is considered in that statement from the author.
I just don't see the cost coming down. It appears the expenses go up fairly linearly with their revenue, and if they lose subs, they'll have to recoup that difference.
There was an article about open AIs finances the other day, and they lost 20 billion just last year, which is up about 4x from the previous year. Yes their revenue also when up 4x, but that the dollar amount for the loses grew more. If they keep on a similar trajectory, even investors are going to step away.
Prices have already gone up for at least Copilot and Gemini to token use pricing from borderline unlimited use. It's going to, if it hasn't already for many, reach a point that just hiring someone to do they AI work will be cheaper and more reliable.
There will be some sectors that benefit, like IT security monitoring, but I think optimized local models will take that spot. It already can for most personal users, it's easy to setup, and new hardware is coming out with local LLMs in mind.
If I have to do this to log into my email one last time as I'm migrating out, I will write off all emails there as lost. If my phone makes me do it to unlock it, I will go out and by an iPhone on the spot. That makes me want to puke typing that out, because I hate iPhones, but I'll do it.
I'll reply, and instead ask you what Obama's acts as president have to do with the name of this building and you'll reply with more shit about how Obama being a monster. It's his foundation, it's his name. That's why.
I did this same shit with another moron last week, I know how it goes. Blocking and moving on, I just everyone else do the same.
thanks for using Leebra!
