I have been coerced before, by my ex wife.

Long story made short, if she wanted sex and I didn't, and I said no, it would always pan out the same way. We'd start at "Did I do something wrong?" And end up at "everyone hates me and I should just go ahead and kill myself." So I stopped saying no even if I didn't want to, because honestly it was faster to just give her what she wanted.

As a man, it feels so minor compared to what everyone else will associate with sexual abuse, but my therapist tells me abuse is abuse and that nobody would question it if the genders were reversed.

It's had effects even 5 years after we've separated, but I'm getting better. Learning to take up space again.

Let's say for a moment that AI really is as capable as AI bros want you to believe it is. Having used some AI models at my work (network engineer), I'm not so convinced, but I'll put that aside for a moment.

The pinch of the AI vise is going to be the cost. All the AI companies are running at loss to try and capture the market, and they'll need to charge a lot more for access to AI once a winner is determined.

Are you willing to pay 10x what you pay right now for access to an AI agent? Because that's looking like what they'll have to do in order to turn these companies profitable.

Modern storage systems and protocols have device performance and longevity in mind, too.

A lot of really smart people have thought long and hard about the problems and limitations of the components that computers run on and how they communicate, and the longevity of the components is a testament to that collective effort.

My honest problem with AI is the hallucinations.

They've been shown to be a mathematical inevitability, and that means everything they ever make must be fully reviewed.

And that's antithetical to everything I've known about computers in my career.

The entire reason why computers are so useful and reliable is because, until now, they always produce the same outputs given the same inputs.

One of the AI agents I've interacted with was in a GPS monitoring system for fleet vehicles. I was a supervisor of technicians, and I got a report that a company truck with license plate [X] ran a stop sign.

They replaced their standard search function with an AI bot, so I asked it which vehicle in the fleet had license plate [X]. And it confidently responded with a vehicle that didn't have that license plate.

A standard search function, comparing an input to database values for vehicles wouldn't have that problem. And that's why I'm so sure this is a bubble and not a major technological market disruption.

They also go out of their way to make their devices more expensive for no real reason.

Apple doesn't use custom tech for those SSDs. They're still normal NVMe drives using the exact same controllers on the motherboard and the drive. They just rearranged the physical connector so you can't easily swap in a non-apple replacement (and save hundreds of dollars doing so).

This is a hill I will die on. Apple is anti-consumer, but they're cool so it's whatever apparently.

But that's exactly how businesses work. Short term gains at the price of long term anything.

And Mango Mussolini promised to run the government like a business.

If that was the case,

Then the NVMe adapters that convert standard m.2 NVMe drives to the Apple SSD pinout wouldn't work. Things like this:

But they do, because the apple silicone is expecting to talk to an NVMe controller in the SSD with the same communications protocols.

Unless you've got some technical documentation to back that up?

The developer posted a farewell rant on their website, and included JavaScript to send like 1k requests to an instance he had blocked in the secret ban list.

If you've ever seen a childish internet troll rant at being caught, then you're already familiar with the post.

It's not weed, it's that mint is very aggressive in spreading.

I personally like the mint growing in the yard it makes mowing the lawn smell great.

They can just do what Alex Jones did in his defamation trail and refuse to cooperate with discovery. The court can't make them turn over documents at gunpoint, but the court can threaten to tell the jury that one party refused to cooperate, and to assume the evidence would be very bad for the party refusing to turn it over.

It's basically giving the other party carte blanche to say whatever they want because you're admitting you won't back anything up. So the discovery has to be pretty bad for someone to refuse to cooperate.

You could replace "Brave Browser" with Firefox and the statement would still be true.

At least Firefox wasn't caught hijacking affiliate links.

I'll be the first one to say that the current Democratic party needs replacing, but they're not wrong.

Or did everyone forget that you need a supermajority in the Senate to get past the Presidential veto?

Is anyone truly naive enough to think that Donald Trump would sign anything the Democrats put forward? The man who told Republicans to tank legislation with things they wanted in it to avoid giving Democrats a win?

Unless you're advocating for a revolution, you have to work within the system. And it's not the Democrats fault that is easier to break a thing than to fix it.

It's always easy to point out a problem. Solutions are what we need, and all this kind of post does is discourage left-leaning people from voting, which is what the Republicans want.

So unless you have something resembling an actual solution, this just seems like virtue signaling to me.

Imo, the main advantage to cast iron vs literally everything else is how you can abuse it as long as the one rule you follow is to clean it after use.

Teflon and other nonstick coatings are too easily damaged by things like scrubbing pads or metal utensils.

Cast iron don't give a single fuck.

And the White House sat on Trump's insurrection for four fucking years.

The system as a whole failed us when it didn't convict Trump on either impeachment.

You cannot convince me that Republicans wouldn't have been rabidly screaming from rooftops that a Democratic President should be impeached if one did the same things Trump did while in office. And the sad thing is Democrats would have agreed and impeached him.

Republicans only care about holding on to power. Nothing else anymore.

And we as a nation just handed it to a candidate who wants to be 'Dictator for a day' as if any dictator has ever willingly relinquished power.

As someone in a non-traditional relationship, and who has two female children, I am fucking terrified.

Way to make me feel old.

I never had to do that to my N64 cartridges. That was the meme for the NES.

And even then, blowing on it didn't really help. It was the ejecting and reinserting of the cartridge that fixed the issue because the slot on the NES was janky.

But can you actually trust what it outputs?

Hallucinations are a known thing that LLMs struggle with. If you're trusting the output of your LLM summary without validating the data, can you be sure there are no errors in it?

And if you're having to validate the data every time because the LLM can make errors, why not skip the extra step?

AFAIK, the unilateral nature of TOS/EULA agreements in the day of Software as a Service hasn't been litigated. Which means there isn't a court's opinion on the scope or limits of a TOS/EULA and what changes can be made.

Currently, Adobe has the full force of contract law to initiate this change without any input from consumers because a case about this has never made it to the courts.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes, but Adobe will likely backpedal on their language in the TOS before any case gets to a Judge because the last thing any company wants is for a TOS/EULA agreement to be fundamentally undermined by a court.
