You gotta use the double line break a bit more judiciously, this is really hard to read

A few times. I first started disliking NPR in 2016 when their coverage was so bad that I felt compelled several times to ask them to stop pretending Bernie was fringe, but that obviously never changed. I'd say I get fed up enough to send them a thing like once a year. They don't care; their big donors have always been corporate, even before their federal funding got cut.

Last time I sent feedback I was asking them to make local stations' newscasts accessible on NPR One; I can't find an archive of any local station's newscasts, and the only way to listen to them online at all was to first skip past the national one and just hope the local one was queued up.

Since I sent that, I no longer get my local casts on NPR One at all. Probably a coincidence, I must be tuning in at the wrong time of day... Idk. Fuck em.

I've seen a LOT of dumb shit coming from the tankie triad, but this... this is...

I dunno, it's 3am and I'm scrolling past articles about Hunter Biden challenging one of the Trump kids to a cage match, and people collecting floating chunks of pool liner and comparing them to bricks from the Berlin wall, like I'm starting to doubt whether I'm awake or asleep anymore and I'm starting to hope that the huge dome that was filmed blowing off the refinery is hit by a huge gust of wind that can carry it the thousands of miles it'll take to land on my head so that I can verify for myself whether it was actually made of styrofoam. I dunno.

Yeah I guess I'm spoiled by PugJesus usually putting an interesting blurb under the posts, but it's kinda silly to not even have a name under the meme, idk who tf this is supposed to be about

I agree Iran has a strong upper hand right now, but it's been less than a week since the most recent deal was announced and also literally the very next article up is about how the deal may still fall through. Seems a bit early to declare a winner at all

I imagine you'll struggle to find any locally elected politician anywhere who got a bigger turnout than that for the presidential race.

I hope this doesn't come across as too semantic, but I dunno, I bet you can understand them. They're just stupid! They will do anything to avoid blaming themselves, accepting they were wrong, or simply accepting their daughter. It's gotta be that got dang vidya game's fault! Everyone knows that games have been indoctrinating children into devil worship since at least as far back as the invention of D&D!

Understanding them is easy. It's empathizing with them that is damn near impossible

Ha, this reminds me of how angry I got at NPR the other day when they aired this. They were all too happy for the centerpiece of their story to be an interview with some spokesperson who did the classic move of blaming Overbearing California Regulations as a problem, saying that it's forcing them to keep a shitty old system in place, and then they moved on to the next piece without addressing how the real problem was that AT&T is refusing to install new equipment before cutting off service to the old stuff. California's regulations are saving hundreds of thousands of people from losing service, and somehow they're the bad guy here.

Drives me fucking crazy that NPR is somehow considered a left leaning news source. I guess it's all relative, huh...

Edit, I've actually been trying to remember to make notes whenever NPR airs a story that pisses me off. Just for fun, I'm gonna include the few I have here:

Tap for spoiler

I'm American but the dates are d/m/y because this is from my personal notes so whatever:

9/06/26 npr ran a story about copper wire thieves, and painted California regs forcing att to serve rural communities as bad, instead of pointing out att can remove that copper the second they install an alternative for those homes

27/05/26 npr newscast called Texas trump endorsed candidate anti establishment. Technically did beat an incumbent but jfc trump is not anti establishment

20/05/26 planet money's "human certification in the age of ai slop" may just be the dumbest piece of media I have ever heard. They put an H logo on a photo and call that verified??? Then they advertise a data collection service masquerading as a verification service, tell the company ahead of time that they are being tested, then end the episode. Genuinely, the mind boggles. Have they always been this bad and just forgot to lie about it?

23/01/26 I just listen to NPR regurgitate a line about Trump's board of Peace presiding over Gaza without a single moment of criticism (in the politics podcast later I heard them eventually get into criticism but it's insane they didn't include 5 seconds in the original story to mention the price tag or who is slated to be on the board)

Holy fucking shit.

The 54-year-old was detained in October at the Southern California processing centre following a routine check-in with ICE. This came after ICE forced Herman to wear a VeriWatch — a device that monitors his location — in May of last year.

Herman told the courts the VeriWatch device "was glitchy from the start”

It connects through cellular towers, but the reception in the Ojai area is poor and it often dropped connections.

“(Herman) also received multiple troubleshooting calls from the contractor operating the VeriWatch device late at night,” said the judgment.

At an immigration check-in in October, ICE officers accused Herman of violating his VeriWatch supervision conditions. They arrested him and took him to Adelanto.

And then further down:

The device and monitoring are provided by BI Electronic Monitoring and Supervision Services, a subsidiary of the Geo Group — the company that owns the Adelanto detention centre.

“That's just a horrible way to run an imprisonment system because there's incentives, obviously, to have more people detained,” Durham said.

Herman has volunteered to wear a GPS ankle monitor or have other release conditions instead of the VeriWatch.

I damn near want to accuse them of burying the lede, but I guess it's not a huge surprise just how deeply corrupt we are as a country. holy shit lmao

Yegge no longer writes code by hand; instead, he manages a legion of bots to do that for him. His productivity has skyrocketed

And then the rest of the article does nothing but describe how exactly the opposite is true. But hey, at least now they're working way more unpaid hours to churn out garbage, right?

If you're open to piracy, it looks like Dodi has a repack of Syndicate (2012) up. That's very good news if you're on Linux; in my experience Fitgirl installers almost never work, but Dodi's have never failed me.

Load up your launcher of choice (Lutris, Heroic, and Faugus are the three I'm familiar with), run the installer through that, and you should be set.

In my fantasyland you would pair them with another device, like a phone, and it would do all the work. The glasses would basically be nothing more than a receiver and a display

I don't think anyone has the reputation of Fitgirl, but other than her, Dodi is definitely the most reliable name I know of. He also recently said he's gonna do a soft retirement and not release as much stuff in the future, so, idk, doesn't seem like the behavior of someone who might be building a botnet lol
