I really wish that UK parlimentarians would try to spend at least as much time solving actual problems that the UK is facing instead of the constant, can we get rid of PM/party leader and sub in a new one, that seems to be their entire focus of the last decade.

Which could be accomplished by simply raising prices by that amount and then paying the staff appropriately and not have this end run around complicating mess.

I cannot tell you anything about any ads I have seen in the last few years online. If they pop up and I can't shut them off, the single thing I am paying attention to is when the skip now button shows up. I literally cannot tell you anything about any of the ads, neither company nor product. Back in the day, you'd run to the other room and do things while the ads came on in TV shows but you were still hooked in because of the jingles. To this day I can remember many of the jingles from the 70s. New online ads, absolutely no idea.
However in the car I listen to radio and have recently started listening to a new station. I am starting to recognize some of the higher rotation ads. The ones I like, I might eventually try the business if it offers a product I need, but the much longer list is the one of companies that I will never do business with since their ads annoy me so much. Name recognition isn't great if all it promotes is loathing.

That was the entire point of the IPO wasn't it? Funnel money to Elon and his friends and leave the rest of the (less connected) idiot investors holding the bag? Anyone who didn't own before it could sell wasn't one of the in-crowd that was supposed to be handed money. If you did buy, you weren't buying based on any business fundamentals and should have known to sell as soon as any gain could be realized which would have been hours or even minutes after buying.

Did their parents always take them out to eat or order food, because, more than not taking home ec, they would have had to be completely blind to any cooking going on in the house their whole lifetime?

I never got the idea that the mom who was to receive the shoes is poor. She lives next door not in another neighbourhood. The only thing was that her son was younger and would maybe like to receive a cool hand me down.

All the fraud is in his home and with his friends. Even if all the people receiving benefits were making fraudulent claims, it would probably amount to less than he and his family are grifting from the US governemnt this year.

We've been through enough tech change in the last couple decades that overpromised and severely underperformed or became a nightmare. I'm surprised that 16% hold on to the idea that it might be good when we know that if it actually works, it will be used as a weapon just like everything else.

Less contact between populations, more differences between languages

@scienza

A study published in PNAS compares population genetic diversity and linguistic structures on a global scale: in areas with signs of greater genetic isolation, languages tend to be more diverse in the way they organize sounds, meanings, and sentences. by Stefano Dalla Casa

So now we have a choice. Did Holytimes mean 1) piss off people who attack others (than), or 2) piss off people and attack people (then).

So not just tap water but her RVs tap water. The attempt at scare-mongering - tap water - like it could happen to anyone is annoying.

I am always fascinated how the man who is strong enough in his convictions to do whatever the hell he wants is considered the "weak" one whereas the "macho" shit is afraid of his own shadow and that some other man may not like what he's doing.

I'm glad I dated in the 80s. Murder rate was much higher but we didn't live in fear because there wasn't a social media algorithm telling us to be afraid of everything.

I will lose all respect for Kimmel and refuse to watch him if he accepts their proposal to make an apology and donation. Nothing he said warrants that. Plus unless he switches to constantly kissing Trump & MEGA asses, they will be trying to shut him down again in the near future. Unless Trump is gone, all US media will soon be propaganda only. Maybe he can get picked up in the UK or EU or Canada instead.

North American car companies are doing the LAMF thing. They have spent the last 4 decades stifling innovation in EV or fuel efficient cars to appease the gas lobby and create monster sized vehicles that they can convince a gullible consumer are necessary. If they had spent even 25% of their R&D on what comes after fossil fuels, they would be able to compete with China now. Same as Africa skipped the whole phone lines thing and went strait to cellular, China is now skipping ahead to the next generation not wasting time on producing past generations stuff. Wind and solar power, batteries are the same. Do I feel sorry for industries that pegged themselves to gas when consumers asked for different? Not it the least. They reaped what they sowed, or failed to sow.
