I almost went with Zorin, but the ratings and reviews in Linux Mint ultimately won me over, as well as ease of use.

That said, I almost checked out Winux, but evidently, it is not actually FOSS.

Yep, I'm livid. I emailed ombudsman@bell.ca and subscribed to her Patreon. She also has a Substack.

I also joined Steve Boots' Patreon as well. I was already a member of his YouTube channel. He introduced me to her.

Supporting journalism like this is vital.

I get your sentiment, but never ask how it can get worse. It can.

I have a lot of geek/nerd friends who know their way around it, but the one excuse I've seen, for anyone who has heard of it, is the stigma that you have to use the terminal and need to be a "programmer". Which is why, for those people, I just call it Mint Operating System.

Yeah, if you have a Pixel, GrapheneOS looks to be the least complicated, but it's still daunting. I haven't tried it yet.

They said the same thing about Harper, and the same thing about Poilievre. Sigh. This timeline.

I believe he also has a transgender child. Honestly, though, most leaders of our parties have participated in pride parades over the years, the Conservatives are the only ones who don't.

You may be alive (and I'm far from well hydrated myself) but evidently we all should have been, and be, more hydrated. But... Mad Max world is coming.

Might be able to use Mint Debian Edition.

I genuinely feel sick to my stomach. That would completely end my life. No joke.

I'm not so sure that monetary figure is actually that vast. Breaking contracts? Yeah, I would imagine there would be a financial penalty for that.

https://lemmy.ca/u/loremnop This is why I am starting a venture on Linux and FOSS (free & open source software). I'm also in Nova Scotia, and this is where I'll be based. At least for now. I also used Linux in the early 2000s, and it's time it becomes normalized. Even back then it was workable, as your experience demonstrates, and now there are several beginner friendly distros.

At the new Halifax Repair Cafés, I'm known as the Linux Lady. The next one is Sept 20th at Keshen Goodman Library, from 10AM to 2PM.

Precisely. People were calling it months ago, it was in Project 2025.

As most of us in this group probably already know, there's Ubuntu Touch, which I've seen on some phones, even being sold on ebay, on Pixel 3As. There's LineageOS & PostmarketOS, but they only run on certain phones, and the setup learning curve is challenging. And finally, seemingly the most popular one, GrapheneOS, only currently works on certain Pixel phones, but there is a partnership with Motorola, so we'll see how that goes. I don't know if any of these except Ubuntu Touch are considered Linux, though.

From what I understand, he used to be greener. But there's a lot at stake to play ball with... and Trump is volatile. So is Danielle Smith...

Does Timeshift work on Ubuntu? It works on Mint, which is based on Ubuntu.

But if this crap keeps up, I might go with LMDE7.
