‘They have to meet minimum wage in tips or the employer pays it!’ Guess what happens to servers that are constantly making their boss pay them more?

If you want to act like someone in this equation is a jackass it’s the employer for not paying a living wage, not the employee who is dependent on tips from whoever is out eating at a restaurant.

I feel like this is only justifiable if the officials aren’t given time to act. It would be one thing if he fired off an email and ran out and did this the next day, but according to the article he spent years contacting officials before doing it himself. If they want to live by perfect world rules where stuff like this is overseen and coordinated with experts then they need to do it in a timely manner. It’s unreasonable to expect people to live in an area full of garbage for years and just do nothing about it.

If people were doing this for clout/ad revenue or on a whim without trying to engage with the proper channels first I would agree, but it just isn’t reasonable to tell people to accept living in an environment full of garbage while their local government does nothing about it for literal years. If you walked along a river in your neighborhood with your pets and/or children how long would you accept seeing it choked with trash and sewage? Would you be okay with teaching them, through inaction, that this is fine? I’m not asking for you to answer, I just think all those things deserve as much consideration as ‘could this cause a flood if XYZ happens?’ Because of this has already caused a flood we clearly would have heard about it.

To me, this was a good faith effort made in the absence of any other resources. If this was load bearing garbage (!) then that needs to be communicated in their refusals/delays, along with a specific timeline for addressing it. That’s also assuming they have detected a real risk of significant flooding, which I’m skeptical of.

Since you mention this is your first cat, I just wanted to let you know that as a long haired cat at around 6 months old he’ll start needing to go to the groomer to get sanitary cuts, which are what they sound like. I really don’t recommend doing it yourself just because their skin is so thin it’s easy to hurt them accidentally. The cut lasts around 3 months, but accidents will probably still happen. Speaking from terrible, learned experience 😂

Aquarium rant: if you have a home aquarium slightly smaller in size than the reflecting pool’s 6.8 million gallons, plecos are a terrible choice for algae control. They get way too big and introduce way too much ammonia. Snails and neocardinia shrimp are a much better choice and can actually live off algae and crud on the bottom to a large extent.

Sometimes you need a little more fulfillment, the same way you need sunlight and sleep. Going and volunteering for a couple of hours a week will give you all kinds of feel good chemicals and be its own motivation to continue once you start. I enjoy volunteering outdoors because its typically more chill and I’m killing like, three birds with one stone by volunteering outside with physical labor (exercise!).

The key is finding volunteer work that doesn’t feel like work and leaves you energized after you’re done with it. For you that wasn’t helping out with 3D printing, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can volunteer for that’s fulfilling to you.
