If we cant work together to bring about revolution, then I do not have hope we could after.
Thats because the residents didnt choose to have their town be economically dependent on tourism. Tourist economies tend to really fuck over local residents. Be it insane housing prices due to airbnbs. Or lack of necessities like grocery stores, affordable restuarants, etc due to all the stores being knick-knack and commodity shops or gentrified tourist centered restaurants. Lack of decent jobs due to everything being targeted towards tourism (really shitty if its seasonal tourism, cause then you are out of the job for the off season). Not to mention having to deal with the roads being congested with tourists, be they pedestrians or drivers. Plus so so so much more. My take, a place should NEVER base its economy around tourism. I got no problem with tourism, but it should be a byproduct or consequence of having a place worth visiting. Not the whole point of the town existing. An economy around tourism is like an economy built around oil. Yeah its a great boost to income for the place, but it comes at the expensive of QoL for the residents, and eventually the well will dry up and youll have nothing to fall back on.
To all the people in the comments being like "Ted had some good points." Judi Bari, Peter Kropotkin, and Murray Bookchin are all people who have written about environmentalism and the problems of technology, industrialization, and such and better than the reactionary psychopath did. Fascists love the unabomber and use him to normalize eco-fascism. Stop fucking saying he had good points cause there are better authors who have made those same points without all the fucking reactionary and eco-fascism tied to it.
He's at a horse auction, and doesnt want the auctioneer to think he raised his hand (thus placing a bid). At least I'm pretty sure thats whats going on
Isn't that actually canon though? Cause the first book says the answer to the life, universe, and everything is 42, but then what is the question? And I think in the second book they answer that the question is 6x7
Edit: I was wrong, its actually 6x9. Which means Litterbox Comics only read the first book and is a poser and a fake fan. Probably only watched the movie sigh /s
In my defense of failing to remember the correct question, it has been awhile since I read the books.
Then how do you fix it? What is your mature wisdom that magically solves the problem of fascism without harming anyone?
I aint saying we brand Nazis, but I also don't think we should be treating them like an abused dog. They arent afraid from trauma and abuse. They want to dominate and abuse others. An abused dog does not seek violence, it lashes out because it feels threatened and cornered. Nazis are looking for violence.
It is ok to punch Nazis. If they don't want to be harmed, literally all anyone is asking of them is to stop being Nazis. It does not seem like a big ask to me
I got a friday night detention for throwing one punch at a student who was attacking me. I threw that punch after descalation did not work, and as soon as I saw a teacher I signalled for help. My dad confronted the vice principle who was the one who gave me the punishment and my dad asked him what I should have done. The VP told my dad I did as I should have and as what was expected, but that the school has a zero tolerance policy so I still needed to be punished.
Jesus fucking Christ, I don't like politicians anymore than the next anarchist but the mental gymnastics it seems most lefties have been doing to convince everyone that Platner is still a bloody thirsty fascist merc is just insane. I dont know how you can be a leftist and not believe people are capable of change.
Like genuinely what is more likely? That Platner is a fascist who is faking support for progressive issues like trans rights, universal healthcare, etc to dupe all the leftists into supporting him; or that he actually has had a change of heart and just is dumb.
Do I trust him? No, but thats because I dont trust any politicians. But I find it a lot easier to believe he isnt the same gun for hire he was before, than to believe he is the only fascist out there that can hide his secret hatred of trans people.
Considering how mean I know cooks can be, anon got off easy lol
I want to dispell a misconception that keeps getting spread as a gotcha. It was never about states rights. No not even states right to slavery. It was about the preservations AND expansion of slavery. States did not and were not allowed to ban slavery. Read the consitution of the confederacy. It is almost a copy and paste of the US constitution but with minor changes that both empower and disempower the executive branch, but also banning the outlaw of slavery among one or two other slavery stuff. If it was about states rights to slavery, they would allow their states to ban it cause it would be their right to choose. But it was never that, they wanted slavery to expand. Even if you add the caveate of slavery to the "states right" myth, you are still perpetuating the myth. Just a less savory version of the myth.
The only way it was about states rights was how it was about establishing slavery as a right that could not be infringed.
My take is a meme is a humorous repeated and shared idea/joke/schema/etc. Screenshots fall under this for me, espcially if the text is in reference to more conventional memes. This is because I count copypastas as memes, which makes it hard to differentiate a copypasta from social media screenshots and such. I would consider screenshots from social medias to be a low effort meme, but a meme nontheless.
My take is we should allow it, but soft moderate it by constructively and politely suggesting other communities that might fit the content better. This would ideally spread more awareness and engagement in other more niche communities, allow people to still post memes in good faith here, and provide a way for people to help softly moderate without ruining other people's fun.
If this was practiced though, I feel there should be a rule that community suggestions should not be spammed in a post. This is to prevent the comments from devolving into brigading and spam.
Calrification, this comment is for general readers, not targetted to the person I am replying to. It is meant for additional context and vocalizing my opinion of Graham Platner.
There was also him being on a podcast interview hosted by a questionable channel. But my thinking is Platner is not a career politician, and is just kinda ignorant politically speaking. People (particularly media and establishment Dems) keep trying to paint him as a nazi. Which yeah, if you only looked at the tattoo and podcast I feel that would be a reasonable conclusion to make. But Platner is also outspoken about queer rights (including trans rights), supports universal healthcare, and other very progressive views and actions (if I remember correctly he was/is a DSA member). No nazi is going to be supporting those actions, particularly supporting trans people. My personal analysis of him is he is an average blue-collar working class Mainer, and that comes with a lot of complexity and nuance that career politicians do not have, and that voters are not used to seeing in political candidates.
Now that being said, I am an anarchist. I do not vote for people, I only vote on individual issues. Whether or not I like Platner, I am not likely to vote for anyone in the first place. Even if somehow I do end up voting for him, I would quickly accept my wrong doing if it turned out he was an anti-semite or nazi. However I do not think that is the case. I think he is a complicated and nuanced person with a complicated and nuanced past that he has grown and learned from. Its pretty clear from his past that he has undergone a pretty radical shift in his beliefs and politics and that growth should be applauded. He should be held accountable for his mistakes, but they should not permanently brand him.
They can pry the lithium from my cold, dead, Mainer hands. But I will be taking at least a few of them with me to Hell.
The rest will perish from the curse of the Paul Bunyan statue, which will awaken like a vengeful Lorax golem.
Me and my partner debated a lot about this because they hate skibidi toilet. I had never watched it and do not care to but I tried to tell them that skibidi toilet is no different than shit we grew up with, they just werent on that side of the internet. It is literally just a SFM video. Its no different than the shitpost tf2 sfm videos a lot of us were watching back around the 2010 and that are still being made today. Is it Pootis Enage levels of SFM cinema? No, more akin to We Like To Party. But to pretend like the brainrot we grew up with is any better than the brainrot late gen z or gen alpha are growing up with is just delusional imho. I mean look at the shit we had, like Badgers, What Does The Fox Say, and plenty more. We always had brainrot on the internet, you're just not a child anymore. Honestly I feel like the brainrot has gotten a bit better in a certain way. Its not as bigoted as it used to be. I remember a lot of internet humor being just saying slurs, racism, ableism, and queerphobia (not to say it doesn't exist now, but I feel it is less common). I grew up with it, I still find it funny even if I also find it distasteful, but if skibidi toilet is the worst of your concerns then I think we are gonna be fine.
Yes that is what I am saying. But just because someone made some good points doesn't mean we should keep using them as the defacto idealogue. Imagine if we kept saying "Hitler had some good points" when talking about animal rights or Osama Bin Laden for anti-imperialism. If you want an edgy thing to make a meme like this out of, use the ELF or ALF. Two groups that are controversial but lack the eco-fascism narrative of the unabomber.
A perfectly good option would be the abolition of borders and the state, not whatever the hell this is.
Other way around. He's accusing us of accusing them of (metaphorically) burning kittens so we can feel good about ourselves on some artificial high ground
If this is about Charlie Kirk, Kirk was not a journalist. He was a racist piece of shit propagandist who spread hatespeech and neo-nazi ideas. Yeah I think calling Charlie Kirk a journalist is nazi apologia because you were deliberately muddying who Charlie Kirk was. A hatespeech propagandist who frequently parroted neo-nazi talking points. And you know what they say, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck its probably safe to assume its a duck.
