Thanks to https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/u/ober found that ipleak.net can be used to check if you VPN is leaking your IP before proceeding with torrenting.

And also using Qbittorrent to tie the client to the VPN by going to Tools > Preferences > Advanced and changing network interface to your VPN.

I'm going to laugh if the news starts saying stuff like Reddit fully endorses piracy on their site.

I should probably check out mastodon too finally since I've made the plunge into lemmy already.

Noticed there's a lot of geeky people on lemmy, and so many seem to be using stuff like linux in threads asking what OS do you use. Which is definitely a big outlier from the average user. So seems like even if the numbers aren't high that there's a lot of people who can provide tech support to dumb people like me.

I haven't been commenting in /r/piracy or reddit for that matter anymore, so if there are large numbers who have taken that attitude it is expected that the voices you'd expect to hear would change as active user demographic changes.

I've relied on this mega thread for a long time.

Are there any tips to see check if VPN isn't leaking anything when torrenting? Mullvad used to let you check with a magnet link they provided before they got rid of it.

I think it should be literal piracy themed porn, since advertisers don't really like to be associated with porn. Every sub should be moving the shift to becoming porn.

/r/piracy is now a compromised sub to me. Not trusting the resources there.

Nothing would surprise me these days after seeing a Skyrim mod with an AI companion you can talk to.

I've seen pirate related subs on reddit be shut down over the years and the community disappearing with it, so I'm elated that this API stuff has led to a bigger push for wonderful subs like this finding homes elsewhere.

We need a home away from reddit for a long time. Always was scared of the ban hammer. Thank you Spez for giving us all the push we needed!

What! Mastodon can access lemmy too?

Pirates crying and simping for reddit are truly the dumbest thinking piracy dedicated communities have a future on a company trying to artificially inflate their value so they can sell it off to other investors. Probably don't even use any sort of adblock.

Kind of hard to notice copyright laws when I'm busy sailing and feeling the fresh ocean breeze.

What about turning piracy into a porn sub only allowing submissions of pirate themed porn. Seems like the best malicious compliance with how advertisers don't really like to be associated with porn.

Pirates adapt or die. So at the very least you have increased your chances of survival. Don't know if sharks will eat you though.

Before you do that. Anyone ever done a GDPR request and seen what type of data is provided? Is it just comments and posts or some more extra user identifying details like ip addresses used and outbound clicks and so on?
