For what it's worth, it's illegal in the USA too. Obviously that didn't stop this moron.

I mean...duh? Basically the entire point of having different laws in different states is that people can choose what laws they want to live under. No one should be surprised that young people are considering that when choosing colleges.
I actually really like the story of Dune, but I kind of have to agree that the writing leaves a lot to be desired. The fact that Herbert constantly switches perspectives with no indication in the middle of chapters, or sometimes even in the middle of paragraphs, drives me up the wall. I almost couldn't finish them because of that.
I wouldn't say it's great even there. If you want people to pay 20% more for their food so your workers can get paid, just list that on the menu. Raise all food prices 20% and pay the wait staff a decent wage. Customers pay the same in the end and your staff isn't dependent on customer generosity to make a living.
Someone else mentioned VR games, if you can afford the gear I second that recommendation. Some games can be quite the workout, and it doesn't feel like I'm convincing myself to exercise because I'm just playing video games.
This is a really common issue. I think the key thing a lot of people miss when transitioning to the swamps is good food. Food is at least as important as gear in this game. Make sure you've got a good carrot patch, and it's not too hard to be eating carrot soup and deer stew at all times. Prioritize finding turnip seeds on your first couple swamp trips, and then you can upgrade your food even further and everything gets much more comfy.
