I'm just this guy, you know?
For me, exercise is critical, specifically running. The combination of physical exertion, repetitive motion, "me time" and getting outside is one of the most helpful things for both ADHD and depression. When I'm not able to run for a few days I feel the difference. There are times I don't enjoy running, but I almost never regret having gone for a run. This can be hard because depression will tell you it's so much easier to sit and watch TV or play a game.
I know that not everyone likes running or has the ability or space to do it safely, but long walks, swimming, biking, etc, might be alternatives.
This was beautiful, thank you for sharing it. I did not have "Feeling less alone because an internet stranger shared a Henry Rollins quote on Lemmy" on my agenda this evening, but here we are.
That's always been my feeling too. I think Mario can run faster, and Luigi can jump a little higher, but Peach just controls better. Who knows what kind of maniac would choose Toad.
Listen, I didn't check Lemmy while avoiding getting ready for work just to be personally attacked like this. I have a full day of meetings ahead and they will be interesting and novel and absolutely not require pharmaceuticaly supported masking and dissociation to prevent a panic attack. 🫠
Thank you for articulating what I've been trying to. I had the same knee jerk reaction to the fediverse, but you're exactly right. Yes, it's easier to find things to doomscroll in the corporate "web 2.0" glossy version of the internet, but it's also designed to make us forget that comes with a cost. I'm realizing that so much has become like the blow molded plastic Step 2 brand Cozy Coupe version of what things used to be. There are fewer sharp corners, but the trade off is that it's a simplified, AI curated version of the whole.
I don't exactly know what this is yet, I'm not sure how it's going to evolve, and a lot of it feels very raw... but that's also part of what makes it exciting. It's going to be fun.
Exercise makes a big difference for me. Running outside is where I find the biggest impact. Something about the repetitive motion, being in a different, constantly changing environment and time to myself helps me center myself, and helps even afterwards (usually a day or two.) I know running isn't for everyone, but you might try some sort of exercise that you enjoy.
I also have a standing desk and recently got a cheap walking treadmill that can move under it or out of the way, and those sometimes help when I'm finding it impossible to focus. I realize the treadmill isn't accessible to everyone, but I've literally made a standing desk out of boxes a couple times, if you want to just give it a try.
I know that neither of these are guaranteed, but might be worth a try to see if they help a bit. Good luck and I hope you find some things that help a bit.

Shockz are the best I've used, by far. I had a couple different kinds of non bone conducting in the past and the wind noise was always such a problem that I couldn't use them on windy days, similar to what you mentioned. If you haven't tried Shockz lately, you might want to find a running store that carries them and give it another shot. I recently got the OpenRun, and was surprised that they sounded better than the 3 year old "Air by Aftershockz" they replaced. (My dog chewed up the old ones 🫠) The OpenRun Pro are supposed to sound even better, but are not cheap.
Ditto! I've been playing with 8-bit assembly programming and it's fascinating how this mechanic was implemented in just a couple bytes of level data.
You better Belize it!
13 year user. Reddit communities helped me get through some tough times. I haven't visited in ages, but R/stopdrinking is one of the reasons I'm able to cosplay as a functional human. Many hobbies and passions were found and expanded there. I mod a small subreddit. I didn't delete my account, but it went from visiting multiple times a day to now about once a week.
TBH it makes me pretty sad, and feels like a 'small death' of something I cared about more than I fully realized. I'm still mourning it in some ways, but am also excited about the 'old internet' feel of Lemmy and the fediverse and being part of that ride.
Thank you for continuing to write these reviews! As a relatively new 8-bit computer fan (I was team IBM PC back in the day) I adore the seeing the pros and cons of each port in each platform. I'll be firing this up on my C64 later to experience it, and might try to get it going on emulators for the others.
Correction: "Google management wants to make ad- blocking (near) impossible"
They did invent a pretty useful knife, so I suppose it would be nice to thank them for that. /s
I second all of this. I started using AntennaPod a couple months ago and like it. It handles "chapters" in podcasts better, too. Searching is fiddly though.

The roof? The ROOF!? The roof is on FIRE!?!
Linux does exactly what you tell it to, not exactly what you want. There's a big difference.
This looks really interesting, thanks for sharing. Can the "live" aspect be dialed back or paused? I always worry about live wallpaper eating up the battery.
thanks for using Leebra!
