Well most of trump steals actually last a lot longer than that. And he won't be running again, although there's no guarantee that the next person won't be just as bad.

Also I have a horrible feeling this deal is probably particularly good for him. Carney has been caving to him since day one and I doubt this is any different

The business community sees it as stability. And trump doesn't generally reneg on deals he's just done. He may find something ELSE to pick on but for the industries involved it brings some certainty. Enough to get the investment they need.

I know he hasn't gone back on anything this term that he signed to this term. I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Like I say it's nothing to stop him from picking on another sector or the light but if they do a deal on cars for example he'll stick by that deal on cars

And in case you haven't noticed we're failing horribly right now. Our economy is getting worse not better and carney is trying desperately to whitewash how bad we're doing and using terms like technical recession but if things continue the way they are right now our economy will be in severe dire straits within a year. Investment is fleeing the country because of the uncertainty and we're going to get pounded if we don't turn things around. So pretending that the status quo is somehow better would be a mistake

Well there's no chance it would ever happen. I'm surprised anyone would even ask that question to be honest. Unless carney was absolutely certain of getting a new majority mandate why would he do that? And his numbers are good, but they're not that good. It would be possible that he could wind up with another minority, so why would he take that risk?

But it is interesting to see that so many people consider it to be a subject that is worth deciding whether or not to keep a government over. It's been generally thought that no matter what happens carney won't wear it because trump will be blamed for anything good or bad, but I wonder if carney may not be held to a higher level of account than people expect?

Well that's not quite true, trump does tend to keep his word at least until the next term where he will claim it was the worst deal ever and he's going to negotiate a new one and he wishes he could find whoever wrote the last one đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

A deal would bring much-needed stability for the business community which we haven't had until now and it's been brutalizing us horribly. Hopefully it's a good deal, and not a complete piece of crap.

This actually surprised me. I can see carney allowing it is if he thought he had such a massive lead in the polls there's no way that he could get anything but a majority, and frankly even as currently isn't that strong and he's not really much of a risk taker. I think he'll stay with his manufactured majority and won't consider calling an election

Never took chemistry in university, but this sounds more like a suspended particle issue to me the way they phrase it.

It does lead to the obvious question, if that's true would introducing more particles temporarily to our atmosphere reduce global warming?

Unfortunately the only joke here is how badly we're losing to trump.

I would seem that you can't find anything in the article that's actually incorrect so you were trying to distract a little bit. Your car needs supporter that's understandable. But if you're a Canadian supporter you should be very concerned by how this is going.

And subsequent to that article we've had more reports that they're not even close to a deal. All Carney has done is giving trump exactly what he wants and that has failed horribly.

Well then I guess you better find a way to do a deal with Canada and maybe stop acting like such a jackass

Carney is a man who somehow, and I will never know how, convinced NDP voters the voting for an ex banker capitalist whose job it was to renovict people and hide the wealth of the 1% from taxation in Canada was the absolute best choice for progressives and left-wing voters to rally behind

At which point he will claim it was too late anyway and there's no point worrying about it

Misunderstanding there I think, I was referring to Hoekstra, the reply is meant to be a reply directly to him about wanting American booze back on Canadian shelves not you. Sorry for the confusion, my bad

Please! His own people have taken pot shots out of three times now, you'll have to get in line 😆

I ran has been making this threat about trump since his first presidency. I'm more curious about where the hell you get a banner like that on short notice?

People frequently use precursors in order to obtain your attention. It gets more sophisticated as people grow up but children find it effective early on. One of the reasons they are so enamored with it is parents tend to use that phrase with their children quite a bit to make sure they've got their attention and the kids just pick it up. So it's kind of like a baby talk left over

Adult versions are things like 'You'll never guess what just happened to me" Or "You're never going to believe this"

In fact, it's getting to the point where "I'm not optimistic" is actually a pretty optimistic position to take

Well, it's kind of complicated 😁

We signed the original deal a decade and change ago and then built the bridge. The deal was that all revenues would go to canada until the 4.5 billion usd price was paid back, then it would go to income splitting.

Trump said 'nope' and Carney and trump agreed to a new deal. But Carney would not let the details be released. However the documents have since been leaked, and we BELIEVE the leaked version is correct. The liberals have not said otherwise.

The new deal is a more of a preliminary deal document which is being finalized, but the terms of the deal are laid out.

Carney said the new deal still included the 'pay back canada for the bridge' clause, but its' pretty clear from the leaked doc that it does not. Carney has subsequently said he "could have explained that better' and does not deny that will no longer be the case.

There is also a requirement now to pay into a 'development fund' for 'the area' which is thought to mean it would be spent on the US side, and may even go to maintenance of the competing bridge. The libs refuse to confirm or deny that.

So ... the NEW deal is still in place but there are a few elements which SOUND pretty bad but we're not sure about. It seems certain however that when carney said (two times) that the bridge would include repayment he was not speaking accurately. Some say he lied, some say he may have been "misbriefed," but either way it looks horrible and hence the pic

Reading the comments I don't think people understand what's involved here.

The companies are moving to the states because that's where the majority of their customers are. Which means it's not viable for them to stay in Canada and only sell to Canadian markets.

Which means nobody's going to be replacing these businesses. We're talking about hundreds of thousands of jobs that will be lost with no replacement.

The state can't nationalize them, the workers can't take them over, they're just not viable as businesses anymore.

And all those businesses and all the people that work for those businesses pay taxes. Which means we're going to have less and less money to provide services the people who are poor etc

This isn't about giving states our money, this is about us not having any money anymore. I think people need to wake up to the reality of how serious this is

Well in that case you should have no problem telling us what's wrong with the article specifically and where it went wrong.
