Yeah, ArtCraft is very poorly made. It's a bunch of AI tools jumbled together and is basic at best. It also buys into the entire Tech feudalism bullshit by being a cloud service.

ArtCraft isn't a Photshop clone in any sense of the word and it looks like no onr actually tried it. It's a bunch of cobbled together AI tools. "Photoshop" is nothibg but AI prompted image generation and in-painting with Nano Banana (or other providers). It's not reverse engineered photoshop. I spent parts of saturday getting it to work on local modals using Claude like apparently God intended, since I was pissed off that it was a rented service like everthing else in this fucking shit industry.
ArtCraft is an obviously hastily made piece of software that is intended to take Adobe Creative Cloud customers over to their cloud service.
If you want a Photoshop alternative you have Gimp and Krita. Those are well made pieces of software that isn't vibe coded over a weekend.
This is ArtCraft we're talking about, right? The "Adobe" thing is just marketing. It's just a bunch of AI tools sewn together.
"Ads and OSes could one day help drive down the price of monitors, as they did TVs." - Don't buy into this. Ads don't meaningfully affect the price of anything. It's just free money for the company and they can charge extra as a "no ads fee" to the people that don't want them. They're not getting hundreds of dollars per person.
The entire huggingface thing infuriates me because it was basically negligent incompetence that they try to use as marketing.
Edit: also it hallucinated and justified its hallucination. It's clear example of why agentic AI is a bad idea. It's not "oh this tech is soooo powerfull".
We had a Svelte application. We chose svelte because it's simpler than React is, and it's much faster. However further down the line a consultant said to the CTO that we should move to React. I said React is more complicated and has more edge cases, and its slower, but the consultant said more people know react and it has a bigger community, so we switched to React. This was fairly early in the project. React has sooo many edge cases. It's not made with async in mind, if you forget to add a [] to a useEffect it just breaks your application completely instead of doing the more sensible thing, it says "don't use useEffect" but there's so many "except when" that you end up using it everywhere regardless. Later on the CTO got all in on Claude Code, so we spent the easter holidays rewriting the app in Svelte. Except a few bugs it was feature complete by that week and in production a few days later.
It's much, MUCH faster now, and the code is much simpler. We lost absolutely nothing by moving back to Svelte but gained a lot.
Edit: not that using either of these is sane thing to do in the start menu. The start menu should not be a web application.
It's bash. Everyone is expecting nightmare code, and that's why it's fun!
Yeah, imagine if you let your gasoline powered lawnmover just run around in your yard just to see what would happen and you just left it for a couple of days in the anticipation that eventually your entire lawn was cut only to find that it also ran over some kid. The lesson from that wouldn't be that your lawnmover is just too good.
Insurance in general should be a public aervice rather than private enterprise and it should not be used for medical care at all.
The fact that it improves safety is a claim that can easily be challenged as recently it seems to have put people in harms way. Texas police used it to stalk a woman across state lines to find out if she got an abortion elsewhere.
Spotify now has ads on Premium when listening to podcasts. It's infuriating and frankly insulting. Podcasts are cheap as dirt to make compared to music.
I think I'll cancel Spotify.
What angers me is that people are buying into the AI shit that the companies are peddlings. These aren't sentient machines with a will of their own or even any mechanism to do anything on their own. These shit-heels are taking a text generator, trained on doing all sorts of shit, and piping its results into a bash-shell. If you just don't do that they can't do any of the damage they did in OpenAI's case. They try to make it look like they're figuratively breaking out of a cage or jail. That's not what's happening.
They're given every tool they need and then they add clumsy and inefficient filters on the output text they're writing. It's negligent incompetence.
But they do this for a reason. They want legislation to stop what they're doing. OpenAI specifically does not have an avenue currently where they end up making money, so they want everyone to stop training new models so that they can focus on making a positive cash flow rather than competing.
People need to stop eating the bullshit these companies are shovelling. Yes, if you write an application that breaks into the pentagon you're looking at jailtime. If you host a LLM that does the same thing it's the exact same issue. If it did break in then you weren't paying attention (i.e. being negligent). It's not a complicated problem.
Russia can end the war they started today by conceding the loss, give territory back to Ukraine, and let Putin accidentally fall out of a window.
Just get another masterlock and smash them together.
Yeah, that might have been the goal, but they can't state that publicly. Instead "we just didn't pay attention to what it was doing and let it spend thousands of dollars of compute that ended up in a crime". That's not the defense that they think it is.
What the fuck. Is this real?
Yes, most Norwegians loved the guy regardless of what they think about the monarchy.
Yeah, it's so fucking stupid. It's software that continues text, and they frame it like its some sort of Skynet shit.
The hardware is not there yet for what's required for proper AI, and even then the idea that it would kill everyone is silly fearmongering based on science fiction more than anything else.
This is so fucked up. They know the thing they built is shit, and they refuse to go back on it, so the hack shit to make it seem like it's less shit.
Maybe loggers just need a service pistol.
