I used to lurk like crazy on reddit. I had a nearly 12 year old account that mainly had a few comments here and there months apart, and only a few posts but ever since moving to Lemmy I've found myself actually posting relatively frequently to help build some of the smaller communities I'm in that have also migrated.

I haven't deleted my account just yet but I joined reddit 12 years ago this month, once RIF went under om the 1st I stopped visiting the site altogether. I have friends that still regularly use the site, mainly through old.reddit whom I've told about Lemmy but just aren't quite ready to switch over and that's their choice, due to the amount of content still on the site I can't necessarily blame them, but I just can't in good conscience give reddit the traffic now that they've gone full twitter in their corporate decision making.

It should probably also be noted that the impetus for the accusation is a misquote of him in a video where he said he approves of common sense gun control legislation to ensure that "The weapons of war which I carried, in war is the only place they will be" he did say it a little fast so the publications quoting him dropped the very necessary comma in that sentence and claimed he was saying he carried them during a war, neglecting the fact that with the comma, it makes sense grammatically, and without the comma it doesn't at all, which is a mistake I doubt a teacher would make, even if they were a social studies teacher and not an english one.

My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy for liking brutalist architecture and long stretches of open highway, but I can't help it, the concrete look and utilitarian designs just scratch an itch in my brain lol

For those wondering, I just spoke to a good friend who also grew up in the same town and mentioned the traction this post got and he clarified that the roll is actually real, the holder is leftover from when the previous building burnt down decades ago but the property owners replace the roll on it every few years when it inevitibly decays and have been doing so for about 3 generations, hence why it was there when we were kids and still is now, it's just sort of a running joke/"urban legend" for the town.

RFK Jr. Is an openly Anti-Vax misinformation spreading conspiracy theorist who believes vaccines cause autism, regularly equates standard public health procedures to the damn Holocaust, pushed the use of Ivermectin for COVID in his book from 2021, and claimed that Chinese and Ashkenazi Jewish people were not affected by COVID because it was target white and black people. Regardless of his foreign intervention or environmental views, he's a propagandist nut case who's family openly shuns him. His father and uncle would be rolling in their graves if they could see who he turned out to be.

I swear I may be the only person who has never actually had a bad experience at Waffle House lol whenever I go it's always just been myself chilling out and drinking coffee with no else there other than the staff, or with one or two friends and it's just as quiet.

Huh, that's odd but I think I may know where the discrepancy is coming from. When Charles originally took the photo in the '96 he licensed it out under the stockphoto company Westlight. Westlight was purchased by another photo company that was owned by Microsoft, Corbis in 1998. Technically Microsoft could have just licensed the photo as they now owned the company that owned the licensing, but chose to fully buy the rights directly from Charles so they could have unlimited use for it with all the branding for xp outside of just the default wallpaper.

I've had a few people say it looks like a render before and I totally agree. It is touched up in lightroom a bit but not much, just straightened a little as it was slightly off center before and it drove me insane to look at lol I had to smooth a little bit of image noise out too since it was such a high ISO photo as they had all the lights down low late at night. Other than that it's pretty untouched, I don't like to edit photos too much when going for a liminal shot.

I went to get chicken for some meal prep a couple of days ago (Missouri, US) and a 1lb container of just chicken breast tenders costs $13, I figured it was a "labor" cost for cutting the tenders off before the customer buys it, like how a container of diced onion costs an order of magnitude higher than just buying a whole onion, but nope, the pack of 2 breasts right next to it cost basically the same, maybe only 50 cents cheaper, and I wasn't in anything expensive like a whole foods, just a generic lowcost midwest regional store. It's absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention 2 orange or red bell peppers costs $5....

I actually named it Bucolic as a nod to Windows XP! The original name of the Bliss wallpaper was "Bucolic Green Hills" before Microsoft bought it from the photographer.

Same here, it's literally the only reddit mobile app I've ever used, the site just feels... wrong, without it.

I've been in that area before so I can definitely see what you mean! This is at the La Cygne reservoir in Linn County, Kansas, the plant across the lake is the main power generation plant for Kansas City, MO and the lake itself is the artificial cooling reservoir for it. I always thought it was strange how beautiful the lake is even though it's only there to serve a big coal power plant. When I was growing up in the area back in the late 90s-early 2000s I would know we were getting close to home when I saw the old red and white smoke stacks across the lake,, they've since either been repainted or removed and replaced entirely though but old pictures on google show how it used to look back then. Took my girlfriend on a little road trip down there this summer to show her around and got this when we stopped for lunch in the county park/campground that's also there.

I think it may be the level of "film grain", as well as a bit of glow around the buildings in the sky, both are a bit too high admittedly, I honestly just liked the look of the shot with the added grain and I've just started getting into photo editing so I'm still not too great at it. I probably should've put some sort of disclaimer in the description that it was edited rather than an actual film photo. I do have some old 35mm point and shoots and even an early 80s ricoh SLR I just got, but haven't gotten to use them quite just yet, my first film roll is supposed to come in in a few days so I should hopefully have some actual scanned film photos coming in a couple months or so.
