In this Thread: people telling you how IDEs suck then proceed telling you how to turn their terminal based text editor into an IDE

Well if only bots are talking, mods can be bots too. /r/SubredditSimulator will just take over the whole Reddit

Plugged one ethernet outlet to another on accident. But they were wired to the same dumb switch. So essentially I connected two switch ports together. This took the school network down for 4 days 😂

Funny you mention the resolution because in the 90s we had 640x480 which was way smaller than what cell phones have now and we still managed to have very functional web. Yeah the fonts weren’t as pretty and pictured had jagged edges but it worked and it was great!

Something I feel I’m bad at is inclusive language. I want to be in the nice people group and generally when I comment something I try to help. But I was also “called in” because instead of acknowledging someone’s problem first I dived into helping… and they’ve tried virtually all of my helping attempts as well so they felt like I considered them stupid/minimize their problem. Funny enough I was in exactly the same situation before where I felt my problem was minimized, but I never put the two together.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that if I get on your nerves - just let me know. I want to be nice I just lack perspective sometimes.

You generally configure download limits and once reached the activity pub will start dropping oldest items. So as a malicious actor you might make other user’s experience slightly slower if they browse older posts but not horrible. And by that point an admin should notice such activity and kick you.

That’s what I want too. It’s time to take more control over platforms we use (and platforms that make money off of us existing). I’m happy most blackout posts either mention lemmy as an alternative directly, or it’s in the top 5 comments.

No the domain name is always part of the ID unless it’s your home instance.

If Facebook still exists, Reddit and Twitter are likely too big to fail too. They might not make what they used to at their peak, but as long as the site isn’t fully abandoned they’ll get their revenue

There’s probably a good amount of literal kids on these networks who are just too young to understand/like politics. And suddenly see their idols get into stuff they don’t understand. It’d be interesting to figure out ratio of kids to adults who dislike people/media/companies “going political”

I’m sure the automation just looks for keywords so pass the link through a url shortener and not say lemmy or beehaw in main text.

I almost feel like sarcasm has no place on the internet. It’s just too hard to relay enough context cues to present sarcasm. Frankly I first thought you were actually being serious before seeing you call it a sarcasm site.

If you really really want it to stay sarcastic I’d recommend having a large sarcasm banner on the sidebar and maybe even a sticky post about it.

But I also agree with others - hating a culture, even a very stupid one, never leads to anything good.

Generally - no. Just make one. It’s similar to email - you can have an account in gmail, yahoo, and live if you want. Or you can just have one.

You also will be able to transfer your account later to a different instance, but this feature is still to be added.

Yes but even 40k users per instance requires substantial amount of resources right now to keep things not-stuttering. And Apollo has millions of users. So we’d need 200 new instances as big as the largest ones we already have. And that’s assuming activity pub caching is already ironed out. Idk if it is.
