Leaving this here as an example of a low-effort post that just pisses the rest of us off.

Your post was removed because it wasn’t about any self-hosted applications, services, or infrastructure. Instead, you were complaining about the customer support of a VPS provider.

A case could be made that Rule 7 should have been cited, instead of Rule 3.

I love how the ONE time they did, all the fears were validated.

Apples and oranges.

Package managers only install a package with defaults. These helper scripts are designed to take the user through a final config that isn’t provided by the package defaults.

No need to be elitist about such things.

EDIT: this particular repo is highly regarded in the community. It is very akin to the AUR. It’s not some haphazard collection of scripts.

Downvote, hide, and move on. If it isn’t against the rules, it’s allowed.

The monthly payment on my 25-year, 7% loan for my solar installation is less than the average power bill. My solar system generates more than I need. Assuming rates never go down, I’m in good shape.

You’re discovering that there’s ALWAYS a single point of failure. Even if every service is fault tolerant, you likely have a single network or power infrastructure. So, you have to figure out what you’re willing to tolerate. You could look into CARP or keepalived to make your reverse proxy more resilient. It’s probably overkill for a homeland, but could be a useful learning exercise.

I’m not going to remove this post because the article does boast the virtues of self-hosted FOSS. Still, the article isn’t much more than an overview and does very little to educate or instruct. This is relatively low-effort and I hope the votes reflect that.

Is this driver advocating to prevent the extinction of manual transmission vehicles, or are we to preserve product documentation ?

self-hosted doesn't have to mean 'hosted at home'

This is good stuff. Has it been posted to the project’s GitHub (issue, discussion, etc.)?

You’ll need to be far more descriptive than “I can’t get it to work.” I can almost guarantee you that Fedora is not the problem.

The moderator team will take this as a learning opportunity. We don't have any rules for this community specific to rudeness or insults. This post was fine as an opinion piece until Edit 2. For this reason, I'm locking the post. Additionally, we'll be updated the community rules on the Sidebar shortly.

I applaud your accomplishment as a penetration tester. I am disappointed at your lack of understanding regarding non-public networking.

Move your VPN to your router. Don’t bother with HTTPS on anything not exposed to the Internet.

If that does not satisfy your concerns, you may want to give up using electronic devices.
