I remind you that mastodon users can overcome the serious problem of not being able to view Lemmy communities in an orderly manner. Lemmy is a great piece of software and works well, although it has some limitations that will be partially improved with version 1.0.

Lemmy also has two major problems, one that isn't related to Lemmy and one that is.

1. The first problem is that Lemmy doesn't handle Activitypub groups managed by Friendica and NodeBB well. It's unable to pick up NodeBB and Friendica posts in the wrong places, so you'll never see any NodeBB or Friendica posts in the community timeline. Fortunately, it handles Piefed communities correctly, because they work with the same logic.
2. The second problem is related to Mastodon: this is effectively a design flaw in Mastodon. In fact, the top posts published by Lemmy are displayed as a message that only contains the title and the link to the message. This is a problem because Mastodon users will always see uninteresting posts and won't want to interact. At the same time, Mastodon users, unless they use apps like Raccoon, will never have clear visibility into Lemmy communities, which are actual Activitypub groups. Only the Raccoon app is able to show Mastodon users and Activitypub group posts as topics, while any other Mastodon application would display them as disaggregated posts within the same continuous stream of all other posts.

These two issues make Lemmy integration with the Fediverse problematic. For example, I'm trying to push the communities of my Lemmy instance feddit.it among the users of my Mastodon instance poliversity.it, and today I can say with some satisfaction that half of the posts published on my Lemmy instance come from Mastodon users who have thus learned to integrate with the Lemmiverse.

Unfortunately, however, almost no other Mastodon instance administrator shows this interest. And unfortunately, mastodon remains the largest community in the Fediverse, the only one that could help Lemmy achieve a greater "network effect"!

This is a shame because mastodon users themselves could benefit positively from the existence of Lemmy communities as Activitypub groups.

So let's hope something happens in the future.

Le istanze attualmente federate con feddit.it sono tutte presenti a questo link: https://feddit.it/instances. Alcune di loro però non sono istanze Lemmy ma sono istanze di software che supportano i gruppi (gruppi/forum Friendica, magazine Kbin, comunità Lotide, etc)

Per quanto riguarda invece le comunità presenti su istanze esterne a feddit.it, è possibile cercarle in due modi:

• inserendo una parola chiave nella casella “cerca” di Lemmy è possibile trovare anche alcune comunità. In tal caso è sufficiente premere il pulsante “iscriviti” (o “subscribe”), ma anche senza iscriversi, è possibile visualizzare tutte le discussioni che avvengono in quella comunità ed eventutalmente, rispondere nel thread.
• cercando le comunità di tutte le istanze Lemmy sulla speciale pagina gentilmente creata dagli amministratori dell’istanza tedesca feddit.de: https://browse.feddit.de/; per seguire quella comunità dalla vostra istanza Lemmy è sufficiente copiare il link della comunità scelta e incollarlo nella casella di ricerca di Lemmy e, una volta comparsa la comunità, sottoscriverla premendo il pulsante “iscriviti” (o “subscribe”).

Gli utenti Lemmy possono seguire anche le “comunità” di altre istanze “non lemmy” che funzionano con il sistema dei “gruppi”. Segnaliamo una lista di istanze basate su altri software quali:

In questo caso è possibile andare da browser su ciascuna di queste istanze e:

• premere il pulsante “iscriviti” (o “subscribe”)

Ricordiamo infine che gli utenti Lemmy possono anche seguire i gruppi/forum Friendica, ma al momento non è possibile per gli utenti Lemmy aprire nuovi thread, ma è solo possibile rispondere ai messaggi altrui. This is generally the way Mastodon displays posts, that they do not appear in an orderly manner.

In my opinion, this is not a contingent consequence, but the problem is a bit deeper: Mastodon staff knows well that helping Mastodon users to use groups better (for example by helping them to visualize them better) means helping competing projects like Friendica, Lemmy, Mbin, Piefed, gup.pe and even Peertube (which also works as a synolos between user (author) and group (channel). Helping the rest of the Fediverse means giving up the dominant leadership position that guarantees them subsidies, donations, visibility and, above all, the possibility to do whatever the fuck they want, imposing de facto standards.

PS: this is why I am a supporter of Friendica, Lemmy/Piefed, Wordpress, Mbin, Peertube and Bonfire: because virtuous competition brings diversity and diversity brings resilience

When you write from Friendica (or another social network) to post on Lemmy, you must respect some basic rules.

Furthermore, as regards the titles, you must take into account that Lemmy only interprets up to 200 characters; when exceeding 200 characters, the title is truncated. To count the characters, however, you have to consider the BBCode characters of the source text, which are converted into Markdown in Lemmy. So you have to be careful that "marked" text strings don't end up at the 200th character! Here are some additional notes:
