Just a lvl 29 guy from Finland. Full-stack web developer and Scrum Master by trade, but actually more into server-side programming, networking, and sysadmin stuff.

During the summer, I love trekking, camping, open water swimming and going on long hiking adventures. Also somewhat of an avgeek and a huge Lego fanatic.

A furry or something. Why be yourself when you can be a fluffy raccoon on the internet?

Honest question: Aren't you worried about broken glass, needles, hot asphalt etc. when barefooting in a city? Or about getting a small cut and a nasty infection via that? Personally I love going barefoot when hiking or backpacking or just on local walking trails, but I'd never consider doing it in the city.

Not criticizing you by any means, just curious.

Seems they updated it to ports 1024 - 65535 which is only marginally better. Meaning someone at Nintendo put some thought into it and still decided that this is the best guidance they can give..

I was wondering the same thing. I checked my email, and over the past month I've received an email about policy changes from:

Discord
Anthropic (Claude)
Nintendo
YouTube
Meta
Airbnb
Microsoft

I don't think it can be just a coincidence. At least a couple of them specifically mention the UK’s Online Safety Act so maybe that's the reason?

Reading this thread, I'm so glad I live in a country where government procedures at least somewhat make sense. I don't think there's any other place where the government failing to pass a budget wouldn't mean that government collapsing, new elections being called, and civil servants keeping the lights on until a new government is formed. It's crazy that the biggest economy in the world can just stop paying its employees because two political parties can grind the whole system to a halt.

Kinda off-topic, but am I the only one who usually joins meetings five minutes early? I hate being late, and that way I give myself five minutes of peaceful troubleshooting time if my mic doesn’t connect, for example.

This is the repository? They have a ko-fi link in the repository meaning they accept donations to support the development. Have you tried contacting the lead developer of the project and asking if they would be interested in adding the feature you want if you sponsored it via a donation?

I remember reading an article about how we're already able to simulate basic tastes, like sweetness and sourness, digitally. So just you wait, we might have lickable HTML elements in the future

Other users cannot. Your instance admin can obviously see it if they want. Then, it depends on the settings of your instance if all media downloads from other instances are proxied through your instance (hiding your IP from other instance admins) or not. I'm not sure if it's enabled by default or not.

I’ve learned that over in the EU, people can actually re-sell their games on Steam.

Unless I've totally missed something, this is (sadly) not true.

It's still unclear if he's allowed to use the logo and such. The national broadcaster Yle (which itself has a strict policy against advertising) allowed it in the national show and argued that (quote) "Windows 95 is no longer a protected trademark today. The product is hardly used by anyone anymore. Thus the name and the costume are allowed"

But EBU might have a different stance ofc

The expectation of everyone having a credit card as soon as they can get one and paying everything with credit to somehow "build" credit. Sounds such a great way to get people into financial trouble at a young age.

Is it just me or does it feel that 2024 has not been a very good year in aviation safety? It seems that almost every month there's news about some major crash or incident and then of course there was the whole fiasco with Boeing

Never ever add any users to the docker group. Rootless mode is cool tho (albeit with some caveats)

with the motion largely serving to get Democrats on the record as voting against a bill being framed as anti-infanticide

Democrats have routinely criticized “born-alive” bills as being redundant because killing an infant who was born alive following an attempted abortion is already illegal.

tl;dr: The bill would actually change nothing and it's all political games.

Good luck trying to "shut down" a open source software.. Still sucks tho, why Nintendo gotta make so good games but be so shitty of a company otherwise

Every account on reddit fediverse is a bot except you.

Jokes aside, I haven't noticed anything. I don't really see what would anyone gain by setting up bots posing as real humans. Especially on Fediverse. I'm not saying it's never happening but I don't think it's very common.

Shadowbanning is not a thing in threadverse.

I checked your profile and before this post your last posts seem to be from over a month ago and they all have a fair number of upvotes. If you have posted/commented after that, for some reason they have not federated to other instances (or to my instance at least).

Edit: Checking your profile via your instance shows newer posts and comments that I cannot see from my instance. Something odd is definitely going on with the federation.

Tested this on my Pixel 8a. Works as you would expect. Personally I have a little hard time coming up with use cases for this but I guess it's kinda cool.

I think I was asked this very question in an interview once. I think I answered something along the lines of 'If you have a light switch like that here in the office, the first thing I would recommend is calling in an electrician to change and move the switch to the correct room. Why would you have a light switch that controls a light in a different room and apparently two switches that do nothing??'

Got the job.
